Sleep would not come. Jess and her disrespect were still turning over in my mind and no matter how many times I tried to shut the thoughts down they kept finding their way back. I sighed and rolled onto my back, kicked the duvet to the floor and pulled the sheet up instead. I stared at the ceiling. The darkness of my room was no obstacle to my vision and the quiet of the pack house at this hour did nothing to slow my thoughts.
Then I heard Nova's door close on the floor below.
I went immediately still and attentive, rolling slightly onto my side to listen more carefully. Her heartbeat was quick and nervous, her footsteps hesitant as she began to climb toward my floor. I held back a smile and kept my breathing even as the electronic pad beeped and the front door of my suite opened and closed behind her.
