"Very real," Pollux chuckled. "They stormed the pack lands that night. The old Alpha had prepared, just for entirely the wrong enemy. He expected rogues, not vampires. Werewolves had an unspoken agreement with them for a long time but it had never been bound in blood or made official, so both sides had essentially been taking it on trust."
"And they took it for granted," I said.
He nodded, wrapping both hands around his mug. "They were badly outnumbered almost immediately. It was not long before the vampires pushed through to the house and I knew the Luna would be inside trying to protect whoever was with her. Back then the women were not trained fighters, they stayed back to protect the young."
Gaia shook her head beside him. "Back then. It was only thirteen years ago, son."
