"Thoughts on Senior Zi?" Mengyao thought for a while before giving a reluctant answer. "She's just a fairly ordinary senior. We don't really have any interactions, and even if we do meet, we just greet each other and that's it."
"Oh, I see. Then, has she shown any unusual behavior?" Leticia pressed.
The Songstress had claimed to be super fond of Mengyao. Although she said she hid it well, Leticia believed that if one truly loved someone, it couldn't be concealed.
If the Songstress really liked Mengyao as she claimed, then Miss Xi, who was currently lying on the bed, should have felt something.
"Not at all. Senior Zi always looks very busy, so we juniors don't really dare to disturb her." Mengyao shook her head.
"Ah, I see. I understand." Leticia nodded thoughtfully. "You said before that you were called here by a phone call from your agent, is that right?"
"Yes, I remember it very clearly. That morning, I received a call from him saying he wanted me to come here to inspect the venue." Mengyao nodded, the expression on her face not looking like she was lying at all.
There was no trace of guilt; Leticia could feel the openness in the young girl's heart.
Melanie and the Songstress hadn't told Mengyao about their findings, so this young lady still firmly believed in her own version of events.
And what Leticia needed to do now was to make her realize the discrepancy between her memory and reality. If they were lucky, perhaps Mengyao might recall something.
"However, your agent never called you. He said he was in the office the entire morning, and others have corroborated his statement." Leticia paused, observing Mengyao's reaction.
Upon seeing an expression of disbelief on the girl's face, she continued, "There are no call records on either your phone or his. According to Melanie's verification, you didn't make a single call that morning."
The girl's eyes widened. She hurriedly took out her phone, opened the call logs, and started searching. "That's impossible, I clearly remember being called here."
But no matter how she searched, the call logs for that day were completely clean; she couldn't find the call she mentioned at all.
"How could this be?" Mengyao pressed her forehead. She wanted to know why her memory had gone wrong.
But no matter how she thought about it, her brain kept telling her that she had indeed been called here by her agent that day.
Was her brain deceiving her?
"Your memory has been tampered with." Leticia pursed her lips and said to Mengyao, "Perhaps that morning, someone implanted the idea of coming here into your mind. This is a conspiracy."
But why would that person do that?
Was there anything special about Mengyao? Probably not.
Wasn't she just an ordinary, slightly prettier-than-average actress?
Perhaps it was to... hmm, couldn't figure out why.
Could it be that they wanted to make them vent their anger on Eriko?
That was a possibility, but if they wanted to achieve that goal, wouldn't picking anyone at random have sufficed? Why specifically Mengyao?
The Songstress had just mentioned Mengyao that noon, and immediately after, something happened to her. That was too much of a coincidence.
Leticia was thinking, and Mengyao was thinking too. The room suddenly fell into an eerie silence.
After a long while, Melanie cautiously poked her little head in from outside the door, wanting to see what the situation was.
Why couldn't she hear any conversation?
"Are you a thief, sneaking around like that?" Leticia turned her head and rolled her eyes at Melanie, then beckoned to her. "Forget it, I've asked what I needed to ask. You guys can come in."
Melanie chuckled and walked in first.
Then came Luna and the Songstress. As for the Elf Race physician, she felt she had no business here, so she didn't plan on entering.
"What's the result?" Surprisingly, the first to ask was the Songstress.
"Little Xi isn't lying, at least in her memory, that's how it happened." Leticia briefly explained her speculation. "All I can say is that her memory has been tampered with."
"So all of this was premeditated?" Melanie asked.
Leticia nodded. "You're not too stupid."
"But what the premeditation is for, we don't know yet."
After saying that, Leticia paused again, then whispered, "I have a way to restore the part of Little Xi's memory that was tampered with, but, well, this method seems a bit wicked."
"Ah, how wicked?"
"It's actually not that wicked. It just requires Little Xi to enter a state of complete physical and mental openness, and then I enter her spiritual world to find that artificially modified memory." Leticia explained, "That memory is currently covered by false memories, but it still exists. As long as we find it, we can figure out who is behind all this."
"The only problem is, that kind of openness is quite wild." Leticia winked at Luna.
Luna was stunned for a moment, then looked like she had a sudden realization. "Is Miss Sukina talking about that method?"
"Yes, that's the one. Luna, you've seen me use this method before. You explain, ah no, describe it to them."
Luna nodded repeatedly. She took a small bottle of crimson potion from her pocket and said to Melanie and the Songstress, "The method Miss Sukina is talking about has a successful precedent. That's when I met Miss Sukina during that incident."
Melanie frowned upon hearing this. She opened her mouth to say something, but noticed Leticia frantically signaling to her.
The meaning in those eyes seemed to be, "Quietly watch Luna perform?"
Hmm?
Is this acting? Acting for whom?
Melanie thought left and right and found that there was only one possible audience: the Songstress.
"This potion can make a person enter a state of mental trance. In that state, Miss Sukina can enter Miss Xi's spiritual world to explore the truth." Luna was spouting nonsense with a straight face; in reality, what she held was just a bottle of perfume.
"However, this potion is quite addictive. I cannot guarantee whether Miss Xi will become addicted after using it once..."
"No!" The Songstress immediately interrupted Luna. "If that's the price, I'd rather not know the answer."
"It's only theoretically possible to be addictive. Didn't the person from last time turn out fine?" Leticia also began to persuade.
"No! I cannot let Little Xi take that risk!"
...
"Tsk, the Songstress feels quite normal, doesn't look like there's any problem." At the end of the day, Leticia sighed, feeling like she hadn't accomplished anything today.
She had originally wanted to see if the Songstress would panic, but she didn't know if it was because the Songstress's ability to withstand pressure was too strong, or if she really had nothing to do with this matter. In any case, neither Leticia nor Luna thought there was anything wrong with the Songstress.
