Chapter 51 - Chapter 51. Night Raid

"Sister, where on earth did you go? It's almost half-past ten and you're just getting back." When Melanie returned from downstairs, the first thing she faced was her younger sister's interrogation.

Melanie tightened her long robe and said in a flat tone, "I went to catch a thief."

"Huh?" Yori was stunned. She never expected her sister to come up with such an excuse.

Yet, this reason was unexpectedly convincing; Melanie was exactly the kind of person who would do something like that.

Taking action at the slightest provocation fit Yori's impression of her sister perfectly.

"So, did you find them?"

"I found him, but I didn't get anything out of him." Melanie shook her head. She wasn't lying; she had indeed seen the little thief, but the moment she appeared, the thief was knocked unconscious by Luna.

"I see." Yori breathed a sigh of relief. "Is the public security here really that bad? To think there would be such a despicable thief."

It wasn't a matter of whether the security was bad or not; the main responsibility lay with Yori's good friend.

"Where is Luca?" Melanie asked about the culprit's situation.

"Is Sister Melanie back?" Hearing someone calling her name, Luca immediately poked her small head out from Yori's room.

Melanie gave Luca a meaningful look. "Mm. You two go take your baths first. I'm going back to my room."

Glanced at by Melanie's murderous gaze, Luca felt like her soul was about to fly out of her body. She had just thought she was finished.

This woman is incredibly formidable.

Fortunately, Yori was there to act as her shield; otherwise, she might have been taken out by Melanie on the spot.

Aside from the fright, Luca's heart was also filled with doubt. While her strength couldn't compare to her sister's, she was still considered a standout even among the Demon Race. Why did she feel that this Melanie was invincible?

She had only felt this way around one person: her sister, the Monarch of the Demon Race, Leticia.

It couldn't be that this Melanie was a powerhouse on the same level as her sister, right?

On the human side, the only person at the same level as her sister was the Stellar Sword Saint. Luca didn't believe her luck could be so bad that the first good friend she made in the Human World was the sister of the Stellar Sword Saint.

"Little Lu, Little Lu, stop daydreaming. Go take your bath first." Yori pulled Luca to the bathroom door. "You can take a soak if you want."

"Ah..." Luca's expression was a bit strained. Such enthusiasm was truly more than she could handle. "I'll just do a quick wash. Leticia, you go back and rest first, don't worry about me."

"Mm-hmm."

...The night deepened, and all was silent.

Luca lay on the somewhat narrow bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.

It was already two in the morning, yet Luca had no intention of sleeping.

There were two reasons. One, she was worried that Melanie would suddenly jump out and stab her after she fell asleep; the other was that the sleeping posture of the girl next to her was truly ridiculous.

At first, Yori was quite well-behaved, keeping to her side of the bed. But once she fell fast asleep, everything changed.

The girl had practically inched her way toward Luca. By the time Luca realized it, Yori was already clinging to her like an octopus.

This experience made Luca quite nostalgic. Back when she used to sleep with her sister, her sister's sleeping habits were even more ridiculous once she was out cold.

To this day, Luca still didn't understand how someone could manage to flip their body upside down while someone else was sleeping right next to them.

Yes, that was Leticia's sleeping posture from a few years ago—and the sleeping posture of that cold and heartless Leticia at that.

Only then could Luca feel that her sister was still a young girl, a living, breathing being.

*Click.* A soft sound rang out. Luca looked toward the bedroom door in confusion, wondering who had opened it.

Obviously, it could be no one else but Melanie.

The white-haired girl in pajamas tiptoed into the room. She approached Yori, leaning over to observe her closely. After confirming her sister was fast asleep, she looked at Luca, who was breaking out in a cold sweat.

"Don't be afraid. I just want to talk to you," Melanie said in a lowered voice.

"Now? Here?" Luca expressed her inability to understand Melanie's train of thought. Was this time and place really suitable for a chat?

Please, lady, it's two in the morning, your sister is still clinging to me, and you're sure you want to talk now?

"Is there something wrong?"

Everything is wrong! Luca wanted to shout it out, but under the pressure of Melanie's gaze, she forced herself to swallow the words.

"No problem. Please, go ahead." Luca suppressed her urge to complain and submitted to Melanie's tyranny.

"That thief... you're the one who sent him, right?" Melanie asked, cutting straight to the point.

Luca's pupils constricted. So it really was about this?

"Sister Melanie, you must be joking. I'm just an ordinary high school girl." Denial. She absolutely had to deny it.

"In your answer just now, I expect only the part about being a girl is true," Melanie said coldly. "It doesn't matter if you don't admit it. Either way, we both know who did it."

"I don't understand what you're talking about."

"You do understand, otherwise you wouldn't be so afraid." Melanie reached out and gently wiped Luca's forehead. "You're sweating quite a bit."

"Can't I just be hot?" Luca insisted she wasn't afraid; it was just Yori clinging to her that made her feel warm.

Melanie certainly wouldn't believe such a quibble. However, she hadn't come here to interrogate her; she was just here to give Luca a warning, nothing more.

"I know who you are," Melanie said calmly to Luca. "Her Highness Kira, from the Demon Race."

"How do you know?" This time, Luca was truly shocked. "I clearly..."

She had clearly used the best disguise magic, and only a few demons in the Demon Race had ever seen her true face.

How could her identity have been exposed?

Wait, last time... that Contact lens from last time!

That lens was inscribed with a permanent True Sight spell. Could it be that that magic saw through her disguise?

But to see through her disguise, the caster of that True Sight spell would have to be very powerful—much, much stronger than Kira.

There was only one such magician in the world.

"Do you know my sister?" Kira stared at Melanie, asking the question while suppressing her excitement.

Only her sister could do such a thing.

Only then could Melanie recognize her as the Princess of the Demon Race.

"I don't."

"As I thought, you do know her! Tell me, where is my sister hiding now!" Melanie's reaction confirmed Kira's suspicion. That was it—this Melanie definitely knew her sister.
