Chapter 20 - 18

Well, it's time to go shopping, especially for my new wand.

When I left Ragnok's office, Professor McGonagall was chatting with a middle-aged woman with a square jaw, very short gray hair, and a monocle hanging over her chest from her robes. When Professor McGonagall saw me, she gestured for me to approach and introduced me to the woman as Amelia Bones, head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. I nodded as she introduced me.

"Nice to meet you, Ms. Bones. I'm Selene Ravenclaw."

Amelia was momentarily surprised when she heard my last name.

"The pleasure is all mine, Miss Ravenclaw. I hope to have the opportunity to speak with you another time in a more pleasant setting."

"If the opportunity arises, it would be a pleasure to speak with you, Ms. Bones. Unfortunately, I don't have much time at the moment, and I still have some pending matters to attend to.

" "I understand. I hope to see you another time, Miss Ravenclaw."

When Amelia left, Professor McGonagall looked at me and asked,

"Have you studied politics, Miss Ravenclaw?"

I shrugged as I answered, and we walked toward the bank exit.

"My grandmother has been training me as the future heir of the family since my mother didn't want the position.

" "I see... were you able to take care of everything, Miss Ravenclaw?

" "Not exactly everything, as there are many things pending. I was only able to take care of a portion... I'll have to return another time when I have more time to handle things calmly... I was also able to access my personal vault, so it won't be necessary to get the loan from the school.

" "In that case, would it be alright if we started by buying you some clothes first?"

Professor McGonagall took me to a shop called "Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions." When we entered, we were greeted by a very nice woman who began taking all my measurements after I told her I would be buying a whole wardrobe. This woman is a very good salesperson because I don't know how she did it, but she even convinced me to buy some ball gowns and other types of formal robes in addition to the casual clothes I had in mind at first, along with a couple of school robes, since, according to Professor McGonagall, "they are essential for my stay at the castle." I hadn't thought about it at first since, technically, I'm not a Hogwarts student yet.

We spent almost two hours choosing the styles of clothes, their colors, and the enchantments they would have. Since it was a large order that would take a few days to complete, I picked out a couple of ready-made casual outfits before going to the next shop. All my clothes cost me 3,600 galleons, as some of them were made with acromantula silk.

I put on a set of black pants and a blue blouse with white sneakers and stored my other outfit in my bracelet. After getting my clothes, we went to Flourish & Blotts bookstore, where, on Professor McGonagall's recommendation, I bought the textbook sets for the first three years and some other books on the history, laws, and customs of the wizarding world. I spent another 200 galleons at the bookstore, as the law books were more expensive than any other. I also bought one of the children's storybooks about Harry Potter, as I felt a bit curious when I saw it.

After the books came the purchase of potion-making supplies, and finally we went to Ollivanders. The place was completely filled with small boxes stacked on top of each other. When we entered, the owner, an older man, greeted us. He spoke to Professor McGonagall first, telling her what materials her wand was made of and something about it being an excellent wand for transfiguration magic. When he turned to me, he studied me carefully before saying,

"I think you're a new face, miss... have you just arrived in the country? Would you like any service for your wand?"

"Nice to meet you, sir. Actually, I'm here to get my first wand.

" "Oh! You look very old for an eleven-year-old, miss. Excuse my rudeness... could you tell me which is your dominant hand, please, miss?"

"Selene Ravenclaw... my right hand is my dominant hand, sir, and I'm actually fourteen years old."

When Mr. Ollivander turned around to search through the crates for a wand to show me, a measuring tape flew out of his pocket and he began asking me for every possible measurement. But when he heard my name, he paused for a moment before continuing.

A few minutes later, he returned with several crates in his arms. First, he showed me an oak wand with a dragon heartstring core, and when I took it and gave it a slight shake, it caused the crates on the back shelf to topple over. We spent a few more minutes trying out wands with different types of cores, such as unicorn hair, thestral hair, and thunderbird feathers. Finally, just when I was beginning to think I wouldn't find one suitable for me, he brought me one he had kept in his storeroom for many years, as that wand had been made by Mr. Ollivander's grandfather.

As soon as I picked up the wand, I felt a warm sensation spread through my body, and when I waved it, I felt my mana flow much more freely and quickly compared to when I used my walking stick or staff. The tip of the wand glowed, and a soft radiance filled the shop. Mr. Ollivander smiled at me before saying,

"Alder wood with a phoenix feather core, 27 centimeters, solid flexibility... you have a rather difficult wand, Miss Ravenclaw.

" "What do you mean?"

"Oh, it's nothing bad, miss. It's just that phoenix feathers for wands are usually very difficult to obtain, which makes them rare and also the most selective in choosing their owners. The creatures they come from are the most independent and reserved in the world, making these wands the most difficult to tame and gain their loyalty. But once you do, you'll have one of the most powerful wands. And if we add to that the alder wood, which is best suited for nonverbal magic, making it very suitable for more advanced wizards and witches... it may take you a while to tame your wand, but when you do, I assure you that you'll have a magnificent and loyal companion with which you can demonstrate your full potential.

" "I... I see... thank you, sir... how much do I owe you?

" "That will be 7 galleons, Miss Ravenclaw."

After I got my wand, we went to buy some ice cream before returning to the castle, as I was eager to start buying some of the system's abilities before I began studying all the books I had bought and, most importantly, practicing some magic to familiarize myself with my new wand.
