The air feels different now. Not heavy. Not tense. Just… warm. Like something shifted. Like we crossed a line. And didn't regret it.
I lean back slightly against the couch, my heart still racing, my thoughts still catching up with what just happened.
I kissed him. He kissed me. We—
I press my lips together slightly. They still feel warm. What is wrong with me?
Lucifer shifts beside me, not moving away completely.
Still close. Still there. But giving me space to breathe. To think.
"You're overthinking again," he says quietly.
I groan softly, dropping my head back. "Can you not read my mind?"
"No," he replies. "You're just very obvious."
I turn my head slightly to look at him. "…That's embarrassing."
"A little."
"Wow."
There's a small pause. Then.
We both laugh. And it's different this time. Easier. Lighter. Like we're not on edge anymore. Like we're not waiting for something to go wrong.
I shift slightly, my shoulder brushing against his. This time, I don't flinch. And neither does he. The contact lingers. Natural. Comfortable.
"…So," I say slowly. "That just happened." "Yes," Lucifer says. Very helpful.
I nudge him slightly with my shoulder. "Don't just 'yes' me."
A small smile appears on his face. "What would you prefer?"
"I don't know," I mutter. "Something less… calm." He tilts his head slightly. "Should I panic?" A pause "…Maybe a little."
He considers that.
Then. "…That was my first kiss."
I blink. Then laugh softly. "…Okay, yeah. That works."
"Was it yours?"
I hesitate for half a second. Then nod. "…Yeah." A pause. Then. "Good." I blink again. "…Good?" He nods slightly. "I'm glad it was with me."
My heart- Actually stops for a second. Then starts again. Faster. "…You're so—" I stop myself.
"So what?"
I look away, my face warming slightly. "…Nothing."
He doesn't push. Of course he doesn't. But I can feel it. The shift. The something between us. It's not just tension anymore. Not just curiosity. Not just confusion. It's something real. Something growing. And for once, that doesn't scare me.
Not as much as it should. My hand shifts slightly again. Closer to his. And this time, he takes it. No hesitation. Fingers sliding into mine properly. Intertwining. My breath catches slightly. But I don't pull away.
I just… hold on.
