Chapter 40 - Chapter 40 – The Moment It Began to Stir

That morning, an unnatural silence hung over the academy.

It wasn't cold.It wasn't warm.

But everyone felt it—something was coming.

Kai walked through the courtyard as usual, calm on the outside. But inside… something was wrong.

Not in his body. Not in his mind.

In the world itself.

Jinwi spoke.

This time, its voice wasn't sharp or commanding—it was… uneasy.

"There's something touching the atmosphere."

Kai frowned.

"What does it feel like?"

"Pure light… but distorted."

"…Distorted light?"

"Yes. Bright… but flawed."

Kai suddenly stopped.

For a split second,a golden fracture flashed across the sky.

No one noticed.

Only him.

"That's not Nyari's light…"

Jinwi's tone dropped.

"That's divine."

A chill ran down Kai's spine.

"…Which god?"

"One that's getting closer."

At the same time,Nyari was training alone in the practice field.

A small sphere of light hovered above her palm.

It should have been stable.

It wasn't.

It trembled violently.

No matter how hard she tried to control it,the rhythm kept breaking.

"Your balance is unstable."

Nyari groaned.

"I KNOW!"

"Your emotions are interfering."

"…They're not!"

"Kai is."

Her hand flinched.

For a second—just a second—she lost control.

The light sphere cracked.

Then—

It exploded.

A burst of golden energy shot outward, scorching the ground and leaving burning marks across the walls.

Nyari stumbled back, breathing heavily.

"I didn't— I didn't mean to…"

For the first time, the Light God's voice turned cold.

"A vessel in love cannot hold balance."

Nyari froze.

"…I'm not in love."

"Do not lie to yourself."

Her fingers trembled.

Then—

Something changed.

The light around her flickered.

And for a brief moment…

it darkened.

Not fully.

Just a thin line of shadow inside the gold.

Nyari's breath caught.

"…What's happening to you?"

"I sense a threat."

Kai felt it instantly.

The moment he entered the field,he sensed Nyari's instability.

Their auras had begun to recognize each other.

He ran toward her.

"Nyari!"

She tried to compose herself.

"I'm fine—"

Kai grabbed her wrist.

"Don't lie."

The moment their auras touched—

A violent reaction exploded between them.

Dark gray and golden light collided, bursting outward in a shockwave.

Both of them were pushed back.

Nyari gasped.

Kai steadied himself, eyes sharp.

Jinwi's voice snapped:

"Break contact! That light is unstable!"

But Kai didn't move.

He stepped forward again.

Slowly.

Carefully.

This time, he didn't grab her—

he reached with his aura.

A thin gray current flowed from his chest, meeting Nyari's unstable light.

The energy trembled violently.

Then—

It began to stabilize.

The golden light softened.

The gray dimmed.

And for a brief moment…

they synchronized.

The Light God's voice wavered:

"…Impossible."

Jinwi, strangely—was excited.

"This… I like this."

Kai and Nyari looked at each other.

For a few seconds—

there was nothing.

No noise.No pressure.

Just…

calm.

Balance.

Nyari whispered:

"…What was that?"

Kai exhaled slowly.

"…That's our balance."

Nyari's face flushed instantly.

"Don't start talking like a philosopher again…"

Kai smirked slightly.

"…Fine."

A pause.

"…But it felt right."

That evening, Kai was called to a private room.

Dorum and Selvan were already there.

Selvan spoke first.

"We observed a light anomaly in the sky."

Dorum added:

"And it's not a natural divine signature."

Kai nodded.

"I saw it. Jinwi felt it."

Jinwi spoke immediately:

"The presence is familiar… but wrong."

Dorum's expression darkened.

"…Could it be the Light God?"

Kai hesitated.

"…Nyari's energy reacted earlier. Something's off."

Selvan adjusted his glasses.

"The bond between you two is getting stronger."

Kai didn't deny it.

"I know."

Jinwi cut in:

"And that bond… is becoming a threat."

Kai's voice dropped.

"…To the god?"

Silence.

Dorum closed his eyes.

"Kai… gods are possessive."

Selvan continued:

"And they do not tolerate interference."

Kai's grip tightened on the table.

A flicker of darkness passed through his eyes.

Jinwi whispered:

"You'll have to protect her."

Kai answered without hesitation.

"…I always will."

Final Scene

That night—

Nyari stood alone on the balcony.

The wind was still.

The sky… cracked.

A thin golden fracture appeared above.

Then it grew.

Slowly.

Unnaturally.

The Light God's voice echoed, distorted:

"Prepare yourself, Nyari…"

"The balance is breaking."

Nyari stepped back, fear filling her eyes.

"…Kai—"

The fracture widened.

And for a brief second—

Something looked back.

A presence.

Watching.

Not kind.Not gentle.

Hungry.

The sky turned completely gold.

And then—

Darkness.
