Chapter 32 - Chapter 32 – Night of Whispers

Morning came… but something felt wrong.

The sky was clear, almost too clean. The town moved as usual—people talking, walking, living.

Yet in every pair of eyes…

there was a brief emptiness.

Like something had passed through them.

And left nothing behind.

At the edge of the town, Dorum worked the soil in silence.

His fingers pressed into the damp earth—

Then suddenly—

The grass beneath his hand withered.

Darkened.

Died.

Dorum froze.

A second later… it returned to normal.

Green. Alive. As if nothing had happened.

He slowly pulled his hand back, eyes narrowing.

"…The ground," he muttered, "it's breathing."

He looked up.

The air was still.

But deep inside it—

There was a low, suffocating hum.

Inside the academy courtyard, Nyari sat alone, a book open in her hands.

Her eyes moved across the page…

but she wasn't reading.

The wind flipped a page.

And then—

A voice.

"The light is calling you."

The book slipped from her hands.

Her breath hitched.

"…You again?" she whispered.

No answer.

Only the wind.

But this time… it felt closer.

Like something was standing right behind her.

Breathing.

Watching.

Not far away, Kashikari was already looking at her.

His expression didn't change.

But something behind his eyes tightened.

Jinwi spoke.

"The balance is breaking. This silence…"

"…is not natural."

"Enough," Kashikari said.

Silence.

Instant.

Absolute.

Even the birds stopped.

Time… paused.

For just a second.

Kashikari's thoughts cut through the stillness.

What… is this?

Is this real?

Then—

Everything resumed.

Sound returned.

Movement returned.

Nyari was looking straight at him now.

"Kai…? Did something happen?"

"…Nothing."

But his eyes scanned everything.

Every corner.

Every shadow.

Everything looked normal.

But that weight…

It didn't leave.

That night, the wind rattled the windows of the dormitory.

Kashikari couldn't sleep.

Jinwi's voice echoed, lower than before.

"You feel it too."

"…Yeah."

"The world's breath… is getting heavier."

Kashikari stared into the darkness.

"…Is this a warning?"

A pause.

Then—

"No."

"It's an echo."

"…Of what?"

Jinwi answered quietly.

"Something waking up."

Kashikari's jaw tightened.

"…Who?"

A longer silence this time.

Then—

"Your light."

"…Or hers."

Kashikari clenched his fists.

"I don't want that light to burn."

Jinwi almost laughed.

"Light doesn't burn, Kai."

"It was born to burn."

Morning.

Nyari stood in front of a mirror.

She looked tired.

But something felt… different.

She leaned closer.

Her pupils flickered.

Just for a second.

Light.

Then gone.

She froze.

Because for a moment—

That reflection…

wasn't her.

"…Who are you?" she whispered.

The reflection smiled.

A voice followed.

Soft.

Divine.

Unfamiliar.

"I am… your destiny."

Some nights are not silent.

They simply wait…

for the right moment to be heard.
