Fiona's heartbeat reverberated violently through her chest; heat rushed through her body, but she forced herself to steady her breathing before crossing the room.
"I didn't know it was this serious."
A faint, almost relieved sigh touched Alexander's lips; he slowly withdrew his hand from Fallyn and searched it towards Fiona.
Fiona's expressions remained unreadable; she stared at the outstretched hand for several seconds before deliberately refusing it.
Fallyn's eyes instantly blazed with fury.
"Can't even hold his hand?"
Fiona's gaze snapped to her.
"I'm here, Alexander; there's no point holding me."
Alexander's hand slowly fell back onto the bed; the brief hope in his eyes beneath the bandage faded.
"How've you been?" he asked quietly.
Fallyn lowered herself onto the edge of the bed, glaring at Fiona.
"Lexy, you're the one lying on the bed sick; you should be worried about yourself."
Alexander didn't turn towards Fallyn; his bandaged face remained angled towards Fiona.
