Chapter: 64: Family
Elena
I just got off a call with Jenna and Lily when I realized I had nothing appropriate to wear.
I turned to face Damien who was now standing by the kitchen counter. "What am I supposed to wear? I can't go out in my work clothes," I said just as the door bell rang.
"They are here," he said, as though he was expecting someone.
"Who is here?" I questioned.
"Your clothes," he responded while I gave him a confused look.
"I ordered something for you to wear," he added, heading to the door to receive the package.
"You don't even know the size I wear."
"I'm not blind Elena, plus my hands have been around your body more than once," he said, a grin placed on his face.
"I think that makes me qualified enough to tell what size of clothes you wear," he added, handing the package to me.
"Go try it on and let me know if you like it," he said, placing a kiss on my forehead.
I couldn't help but ask. "Why, why are you doing all this?"
"Buying you clothes?"
"Damien, you know what I mean," I said, trying to hold his gaze.
He ran his hand through his hair. "I messed up the first time and I don't want to make that mistake ever again with you."
"I know you don't remember me or our marriage but I hope what I do now would make up for my shortcomings in the past," he added with deep emotions.
He was still caught hook, line, and sinker by my lies and I didn't know if I was ready to come clean yet.
My heart paced faster at his words. Did I want to put a tag on what we had going on now? Was I ready to take Damien seriously? Confusion etched on my face. "Damien—"
He cupped my face with his hand before I could finish my statement. "Please give me a chance. I want to be your man again, I want to be Lily's father, I want us to be a family again."
A part of me wanted to resist, to remind myself of everything that had happened before. But another part—the part that had softened with every moment we'd shared lately—was tempted to believe him. To believe that this time, things could work out— that things could be different.
I exhaled softly and looked up at him. "This… it's… I don't know how to feel about this," I admitted. "But I see you trying. So I want to try too, And maybe… maybe I won't regret my decision."
His grip on my face tightened just slightly, as if my words were magical. "Elena, I'll do whatever it takes. I'd make sure you don't regret your decision."
A small smile tugged at my lips despite the nervous fluttering in my stomach. "Let's go get ready, I don't want Lily waiting for us," I said, giving him a peck on the lips.
Relief washed over his features, and for a moment, I felt like I wasn't running from the past. I was stepping toward something new.
He had bought me a beautiful purple sundress that fitted my body like it was tailored specifically for me. I styled my hair in a French updo completing my look.
When I got out of the room, Damien smiled, stepping closer until there was barely any space between us. His eyes roamed over me slowly, as if he was love struck, before he started dishing out compliments.
"You look breathtaking, Elena."
"Thank you," I blushed.
He had on a navy blue comfortable button down shirt that hung loosely on him with a wide leg pants in matching colors. He looked like a model off the runway.
"You don't look bad yourself," I said back to him.
Oh, I know," he teased. "But I'd rather hear you say I look irresistible," his voice deepening.
He leaned in slightly, his breath warm against my skin. "Or better yet, you could just admit that you can't take your eyes off me."
"I'm not fueling your ego, Damien," I hissed, walking away from him.
"Let's get going," I added, he held on to my hand stopping me in my tracks, then I felt his hard body on mine. He had hugged me from behind, placing a kiss on my cheeks.
"Now we can go," he smirked.
