I turned to see Ethan standing there with a bouquet of flowers in his hand.

This was my chance! Ethan walked into the room and shut the door behind him.
"Ethan? What are you doing here?" I asked, trying to sound casual, though my heart was hammering hard in my chest.
"My grandmother is in hospice," Ethan said, holding up the flowers. "I came to drop these off before visiting hours ended."
"That's sad, kid, but you can't be in here," the detective said, standing and staring Ethan down.
"I'm being held hostage," I said.
The detective turned red. "She is not!"
"Help me!" I let some tears fall.
Ethan glanced back at the detective, as he reached into his back pocket.
"What are you doing?" the detective snapped, narrowing his eyes.
Before the detective could react, Ethan lunged forward jabbed a taser into his side. The shock hit instantly, and the detective crumpled to the floor, twitching briefly before falling unconscious.
