Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Hydrangea paniculata

I catch my reflection twist in disgust, my face scrunch up so tightly that I start to look like Grinch, lines creasing where they shouldn't even exist.

The author probably needs to censor this.

Lady Elie then proceeds with a concern look, as if she saw the most ugliest human being to be this pretty.

This has always been a problem of me that my face shows no filter, no restrain in my emotions.

That's why my boss never let me work up front, always keeping me in the back or tucked away in the office.

My boss raise his hand and pinches the air.

"You know, you have potential. If you could just… somehow hide your face a little."

'My emotion is literally written all over my face.'

'Like seriously who in their right mind would think of congratulating her? Not only it's a fixed marriage but also the way they have this big age gap.' I pull my head back slightly and raise an eyebrow in disgust.

'The way Lady Elie held everything with grace? This poor child, that's an old man, and she's not dating a young lord, she's dating the DUKE ITSELF and I cannot support this,'

'...but what can I do?'

as my surrounding slowly dims as if my world turns dark.

I clench my hands tightly.

'This isn't just a book now, this is real life'

Lady Elie's eyes shine from the tears she tries to held on, she softly put her hand to cover her smile, she lets out a small laugh.

"Ever since you got sick for 3 days Vel you start to be weird."

'Weird... That's one way to put it on how to say your cousin suddenly been possessed by a 24 year old man.'

"You've always been quiet and non-expressive so I wasn't expecting a reaction." as Lady Elie continues to smile.

My maids starts to smile softly, as if a miracle happen, while I wear a confuse reaction.

"You haven't smile nor even get sad since the late Duchess died." as Lady Elie's face relaxes.

"How many years has it been?" Erisa smiles softly.

Kel interrupts "10?"

'Ah 10... Wait'

'If I remember correctly, her mother died when Lady Velora was 4 years old.'

'Which means right now I'm 14!?!'

'ISN'T THAT WAY LONGER THAN BEFORE THE CHAPTER EVEN START?'

'If I remember correctly, the point where the villainess, Lady Velora is introduced in FAF is when she turns eighteen.'

'It's also when the Female lead will be introduce as a commoner who becomes Lord Caelrion's fiancée, The Male lead, because of her ability to make the flowers bloom, a great nutrient for the Fairies.'

'That's when the FL showcase her flower ability and gain recognition through the whole country.'

'That's when her suffering begins cause of the jealousy, Lady Velora touches the flower and it slowly turns into a different color like poison… and, I guess, that's when I'll start to suffer, cause I know at any point I touch a flower, my ability will be revealed and at the age of 20, I'll be beheaded for poisoning the Crown Prince and the Queen.'

'This just means I have 4 more years to think about it but right now I want to learn about my situation and a way that I could possible help Lady Elie, since she was never once mentioned in the book, its possible something happened to her.'

As I've reach my determination, I realize the maids are talking to each other while Lady Elie maintains her elegance while sipping a cup of tea.

After thinking for sometime, I finally start to speak up.

"Why..." I really can't help but worry.

The silence is too loud that I cannot hear the words they're going to say.

My troubled expression gives away the emotions I try to suppress.

Lady Elie stares at me and from that she understands my intentions. "I'm glad I'm able to see you change."

She smiles, yet it wavers with dejection.

Lady Elie proceeds to talk about her life and situation. She says that she has no choice as the youngest daughter of the Duke. From how their family's business is failing and I can't help but ask—

"Can't my father help you?"

A heavy silence settles over the surroundings once again.

"You're too young to understand." Lady Elie chuckle softly.

'But I need to know!!'

"You haven't even able to know what ability you have."

'Ability? Does this mean that nobody knows my ability is to create poisonous flowers?'

"Oh yea, Lady Velora's birthday is near! That's when we'll be able to see what ability you have!" as Lady Elie clasp her hands in excitement.

"When was it?"

"On May 7th." Erisa interrupts.

"Oh! A month from now, I'm glad I'm able to celebrate it before I move away."

'I guess 3 more years since my birthday will be celebrated on May 7th.'

Lady Elie reaches her hand in the sky as if she was talking to someone.

The wind blew strong yet it didn't startled Lady Elie, a shining light drop by her hand.

It shines as if our eye met, followed by another strong wind it disappear as Lady Elie lowers her hand.

"What in the world happen?" as Kel hold her hair.

"Are you okay Lady Velora?" as Erisa fixes mine.

'Huh did nobody saw the light?'

"I must go now, thank you Vel for meeting me out for tea time, let's play another time."

When the sun finally sets that's when the day ends with me and Lady Elie saying our goodbyes to one another which I abruptly did a shallow bow with no courtesy and it still confuses everyone but they just left out a smile instead.

'I think everyone is starting to appreciate the new Lady Velora, the new me.' as I wobble my way back.

I start to observe my surrounding. I ask my maids whether I can go around, and they're quite glad 'I'm' finally opening up.

"Our lady is finally growing up curious about the world." as Kel shed a tear.

"You can try hanging out on the garden, do you want us to come with you since you never go out your room much."

'Did Lady Velora live as a shut-in?'

I peak through the entrance and peak through my right.

"No need, is this my way back to my room?"

"Yes."

"We'll look for you before the sky turns dark."

"Okay."

'I didn't realize the garden they meant was actually this huge garden.'

From my point of view, as I look to my left and right, all I see are bed of flowers surrounded by hedges.

'I know that this story is mostly about flowers and fairies but this is twice larger than my room, you can actually build a house from here with a lawn.'

The garden is filled with different flowers. Hibiscus, Zinnia even Sunflowers and Roses.

I bend over to examine the flowers further.

"You can tell that its actually being taken care of by an actual gardener, from the way the soil compost are far different from one another."

I start to miss my home town.

'Before I transmigrate, my family used to sell flowers, I guess that's also one of the reason why I start reading.'

"Ah." by instinct I almost touch the flower.

'I need to confirm if my abilities finally resurface cause from the way I remember it, its suppose to change colors.'

I slowly reach out to touch the flower, hesitant but out of curiosity.

Scared, I close my eyes.

...

I slowly open my eyes and I'm actually touching it and nothing happens.

I let out a sigh as a sign of relief.

From this conclusion, it sets my thoughts racing.

'Does that mean that our abilities is given yet wouldn't it mean that everyone should have abilities? From what I observe I've seen no one use abilities nor even fairies, not even the maids but this conclusion is not enough to convince me.'

I narrow my eyes, lost in thought.

"Hey hermit."

I look on my right and a dude appeared.

He wears a white coat lined with red, paired with white shorts trimmed in the same color. A little taller than me by an inch and wears brown shoes.

His hair is disheveled, spiking unevenly and his face is faintly smudged with dirt.

Sweat runs down his skin, as though he rushed here without pause.

His eye, red rubies, almost identical to mine.

'Wait. Who's he calling a hermit!?'
