Chapter 406 - Chapter 406: Twenty Pulls and the Hyperbolic Time Chamber

Chapter 406: Twenty Pulls and the Hyperbolic Time Chamber

Ethan's face was lit up with excitement, and you couldn't blame him. This round of gacha had been ridiculously generous.

It went far beyond anything he'd imagined. The rewards were enormously useful, both to him and to Hell's Kitchen's superheroes.

And they mattered far more than any rewards before.

After all, his earlier pulls had mostly been items from Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, or various comic-book worlds.

Those were nice, but they had a ceiling.

This time he'd pulled Runeterra, and that world's ceiling was very, very high!

Ethan knew these characters better than anyone. They were his youth.

Looking at the cards in his hand, Ethan couldn't help thinking back to the good old days of five-stacking with his friends at the internet café.

He'd once been a classy, easygoing Zaunite himself, which is to say the most toxic flamer on the server. Seeing these familiar faces made him a little nostalgic.

"Maybe I could get Tony to develop the game? With Tony's skills, it shouldn't be hard."

But the moment the thought flashed through his mind, he cut it off hard. He slapped his own cheeks, as if to drive the impractical fantasy out of his head.

"The enemy's about to kick down my door and I'm thinking about video games! No, no, no." Ethan shook his head hard.

Once he'd pulled himself together, his gaze fell on the pulls he still had left.

His brow furrowed as a fierce internal struggle broke out.

On one hand, he was desperate to keep this incredible streak going, hoping the next ten-pull would bring another stunning surprise.

On the other, he was afraid he'd used up all his luck, and any further pulls would be a waste.

The conflict was torture.

In the end, Ethan drew a deep breath and made his decision.

"Go big or go home! Bicycle today, motorcycle tomorrow! System, pull for me!"

Ethan stared nervously at the gacha screen.

The first two pulls killed his hopes.

「Congratulations, Host! You've drawn: a GG Bond figurine!」

「Congratulations, Host! You've drawn: one pair of Shinnosuke Nohara's underpants!」

Ethan was already regretting it. "Argh, I was too impulsive! What is this garbage?!"

Fortunately, from the third pull on, things started looking up.

「Congratulations, Host! You've drawn: Senzu Beans!」

「Congratulations, Host! You've drawn: Three Monkey Hairs!」

「Congratulations, Host! Better Luck Next Time!」

「Congratulations, Host! You've obtained the Growth Template: Lucian, the Purifier!」

「Congratulations, Host! You've obtained the Growth Template: Malphite, Shard of the Monolith!」

「Congratulations, Host! You've obtained: the Mini Hyperbolic Time Chamber!」

「Congratulations, Host! You've obtained the Growth Template: Frieza!」

"Sss... this ten-pull's pretty strong too." Ethan sucked in a breath as he looked over the results.

This batch had fewer templates than the last, but the haul was every bit as good.

Ethan manifested all twenty pulls. All told: nine template cards, one bottle of Senzu Beans, two pieces of equipment, one Mini Hyperbolic Time Chamber, three monkey hairs, and two useless knickknacks.

[Thornmail]: A peerless defensive treasure from Runeterra, as if nature itself had granted it to the brave. Every time the wearer is struck, it lashes back like a thorn bush, dealing 5% of the damage back to the attacker, while the wearer calmly enjoys 10% damage reduction.

[Last Whisper]: A peerless offensive item from Runeterra. Legend has it that in the western lands, people hear the voice of Death at the moment they die, so Last Whisper represents a general of Death. The wielder's attack power instantly rises by 20%, and every arrow fired deals true damage that pierces any defense.

Ethan ran his hand along the bow, feeling the cold sharpness flowing over it.

Honestly, both items were excellent. Too bad he hadn't gotten a Sunfire Cape. Thornmail plus Sunfire meant hitting me is just hitting yourself.

In the Marvel world, Thornmail even came with an extra 10% damage reduction. But Ethan hadn't yet decided who should get either item.

This wasn't a game, after all. The gear had to be held in someone's hands, and Last Whisper was a bow.

None of Ethan's companions were good with a bow. The only expert archer he could think of was Hawkeye.

And Hawkeye wasn't one of Hell's Kitchen's people.

Next, Ethan looked at the other items.

[Mini Hyperbolic Time Chamber]: From the world of Dragon Ball. A stripped-down version of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Only two people can enter at a time, and one day inside equals half a year.

To Ethan, the Mini Hyperbolic Time Chamber was the second-biggest prize of this whole round, more precious than any of the templates.

As he saw it, the templates weren't essential. Time was. Time was what Ethan and his people lacked most.

Time was the real gap between them and the top powers. Every one of those top powers had existed for tens of millions of years.

With the Time Chamber, even a stripped-down one, even with only two people a day, even at just half a year per day, they'd be far better off than now.

As for why it wasn't the biggest prize of the round: Ethan turned his gaze to the three monkey hairs.

That's right. These three monkey hairs came from that monkey!

Sun Wukong!

[Three Monkey Hairs]: Three hairs from that monkey. Each carries one full-power strike from the Great Sage.

In Ethan's eyes, these weren't monkey hairs at all. They were three extra lives. With them, even if he ran into one of those so-called Marvel gods, he could use them to escape.

The description didn't say which world's Sun Wukong they came from, though.

"Please don't be the Marvel Universe's Sun Wukong," Ethan muttered.

That's right: Marvel had a Sun Wukong too, and even a superhero called the Monkey King.

But as far as Ethan was concerned, that so-called Monkey King had nothing whatsoever to do with the real Sun Wukong.

For one thing, that Sun Wukong didn't even have any fur. In Marvel, he was just a gang member who happened to be named Sun Wukong, and had heard the myths from the East.

Then he actually found Brother Monkey's golden-banded staff, gained a sliver of mysterious power from Brother Monkey, and went back to America to be the superhero Monkey King.

To Ethan, Sun Wukong was the hero in golden armor, wielding the As-You-Will Golden-Banded Staff, who dared take on heaven and earth. Not some knockoff from another world.

Still, since the System had produced them, Ethan was sure these hairs held tremendous power.

He tucked the three monkey hairs away. Next, it was time to look at the template cards.
