Chapter 20 - SEASON 1 | EPISODE 20: THE MASK OF THE ORDINARY

The sunrise over Bhilai marked the beginning of another day governed by the Level 1 Architect System. As the clock struck 5:00 AM, Aaryan and Simran were already in the middle of their high-intensity physical conditioning.

Simran's movements were sharper today, though the memory of the "Dark System" glitch from the previous night hung in the air like a digital shadow. They moved through their daily routine—exercise, deep study, and preparation—with a mechanical precision that left no room for error. Everything was going according to the protocol.

The JEE-NEET Incident

In the Class 10 classroom, the air was thick with the heat of an afternoon lecture. The teacher paced the front of the room, scrawling a complex physics problem on the board that involved advanced thermodynamics and calculus—concepts far beyond the standard CBSE curriculum.

"Riya," the teacher called out, pointing to the board. "Can you solve for the entropy change in this closed system?"

Riya stood up, her eyes scanning the variables. She was a top student, but she bit her lip and shook her head. "I... I don't know the answer, Sir. We haven't covered these integrals yet."

The teacher turned his gaze. "Simran? You've been showing remarkable progress lately."

Simran looked at the board, her System-enhanced brain trying to process the data, but the formula was too specialized. "I'm sorry, Sir. I don't know it either."

Finally, the teacher's eyes landed on the boy in the last row. "Aaryan. Any guesses?"

Aaryan didn't look up from his notebook. In a cold, detached voice that seemed to vibrate with hidden authority, he spoke the exact numerical value and the derivative required to reach it. The classroom went silent.

"Correct," the teacher whispered, his brow furrowing. "Aaryan, see me after class."

The Mastermind's Slip

When the hallways cleared, Aaryan stood before the teacher's desk.

"How were you able to answer that, Aaryan?" the teacher asked, his eyes searching Aaryan's expressionless face.

"Why, Sir?" Aaryan asked, his voice a flat line. "I mean... why do you ask that kind of question to a Class 10 student?"

"Because that was a question meant for JEE-NEET aspirants," the teacher replied. "The level was too high for you. Yet you answered it perfectly. How?"

Aaryan shrugged, his blue-tinted eye flickering for a millisecond as he calculated his exit strategy. "I just guessed the answer, Sir. It seemed logical."

The teacher went quiet, a deep doubt taking root in his mind. He's hiding something, the man thought. He is suppressing his true intelligence. But why?

Aaryan didn't need to ask. Through the System's telepathic link, he had already read the teacher's mind. He knew the mask of the "ordinary student" was starting to crack. "You may leave," the teacher finally said.

Vicky's Request

As Aaryan exited the room, Simran and Riya rushed toward him.

"What happened, Aaryan?" Simran asked, coming very close to him, her presence almost protective. "Did he catch you?"

"Nothing," Aaryan replied. "Just a conversation about physics."

"Oh god, we thought something actually happened," Riya sighed in relief.

Suddenly, a familiar voice cut through the air. "Wow, Aaryan. Now you have two girlfriends? You really are the king of the school."

It was Vicky, Aaryan's school associate. Aaryan turned to him with a gaze as cold as ice. "We are just friends, Vicky."

Vicky laughed, clearly not believing a word of it. "Anyway, I have a job for you, Aaryan. Can you do it?"

Aaryan paused, his internal "Mastermind" protocols weighing the risks. "What do I get by doing this work?"

"You get more contacts," Vicky said, leaning in. "And trustable friends... like me."

"Like you?" Aaryan asked, a hint of sarcasm in his tone.

"Yeah, like me," Vicky replied seriously. "The work is to protect a girl in our class. Yesterday, some older boys tried to touch her after school. Her brother is a friend of mine, and he's desperate for help. Can you handle it?"

Aaryan didn't answer immediately. He used his telepathy to link with Simran and Riya. 'Should I help him?' he asked silently.

'Yes,' Simran replied through the mental link. 'If we want to build a network of influence, we have to help those who are vulnerable.'

Aaryan looked back at Vicky. "Fine. After school, I'll meet you."

Maya and the Trap

After the final bell, Simran and Riya departed for home in the car. Aaryan remained behind, meeting Vicky and two others: a girl named Maya and her brother, Kishor.

Maya looked at Aaryan with curiosity. "You're Aaryan Sahu, right?"

"Yeah," Aaryan replied.

"I mean... the boy who is friends with the toppers," Maya said, her voice trailing off. "Simran and Riya... they are so beautiful and have such high IQs. Why are they your friends?"

Aaryan stared at her until she looked away. "They are my friends. So what?"

Maya didn't answer, but she couldn't help but think: What does a quiet boy in the last row have that attracts the most powerful girls in the grade?

They moved toward the outskirts of the neighborhood, near the Khursipar area, searching for the boys who had harassed Maya. Luckily—or perhaps by the System's design—they found them. But today, the boys weren't alone. They were standing with a group of professional gangsters.

"Why have you come here?" the leader of the gangsters asked, stepping forward. He was a large man with a scar running down his jaw. "Are you trying to beat me and my friends?"

Vicky, Maya, and Kishor all stepped back, their faces pale with fear. These weren't school bullies; these were dangerous men. But Aaryan stood his ground, his eyes scanning the gangsters' positions and calculating their threat levels.

The lead gangster laughed, stepping into Aaryan's personal space. He reached out a heavy hand, intending to shove the "skinny" student.

"You're a long way from the classroom, kid," the gangster sneered.

Aaryan didn't move. He didn't even blink. Internally, the System interface flashed red: [THREAT DETECTED. AUTHORIZE COUNTER-MEASURES?]
