Chapter 22 - A Paranormal Event on an Interstate Highway?

"Miss Know-it-all, why are you following me? I have already said goodbye to you"

Renelle, after walking for a while in the direction of the Princeton-Plainsboro University Hospital, turned around one hundred and eighty degrees again to look at the young university girl with copper hair and freckles on her white skin who was following her.

"It is not Miss Know-it-all! My name is Mar... Call me Masters!"

"Alright, Miss Sabelo... Meredith. I already promised to introduce you to my father later, and we already said goodbye. Why are you following me?"

"I cannot leave a little girl wandering alone through the streets, it is very dangerous! Wait!! How do you know my name is Meredith!? It is not written on my student tag.."

Masters looked down and grabbed her blouse to stretch the fabric and be able to see the tag she herself had written.

"Your first name and your last name have an -M- and also have a -T-, your first name has two -A- one -R- that is also present in your last name and an -H-. But your last name has an -E- that means your middle name should have two -E-. You are very intelligent so you must have academic parents, maybe one or both have something to do with literature so they chose your name with a letter game. Meredith has the two -E- one -M- one -R- one -T- and the -H- from your first name forming the same digraph -TH- from Martha. Although for some reason the name Mereth came to my mind, which is closer to the rules of your first name and I feel that I know someone named Mereth I think your parents went more for Meredith..."

Renelle started talking nonstop showing a way to guess the middle name of the young university girl with copper hair and freckles on her face.

Renelle's hands danced in the air drawing letters and shapes with her fingers as if she were writing on a blackboard.

The young university student Meredith listened with bright eyes and lips slightly parted in amazement.

She herself, Meredith, had not thought about her own name that way. 'Today I will write to my parents if this little girl Renelle's theory is true' Meredith thought.

"jejeje~ I am not as intelligent as you say ~ " but in the end Meredith focused more on the fact that the girl recognized her intelligence.

"DISGUSTING Bleeh ~. You are just a little intelligent. Do not think so highly of yourself." Renelle made a face of disgust although to Meredith's eyes it results in a cute grimace.

Renelle stopped trying to shoo her away and simply continued walking toward the hospital. For now she is interested in making a treatment plan for the young blonde mother with cancer, healing her, and laying the groundwork to create research on the cure method.

Of course, research that must be under his control.

While they were arriving at the entrance of the hospital, Meredith had already told everything about her life, the love story of her parents and the reason why she is studying at this university far from her place of origin.

Although Renelle is not interested, now with her memory active at one hundred percent she can practically remember any data she obtains every second of her life. For another person this should be a kind of torture but Renelle House's will has no ripple or disturbance when processing and storing all this data.

It is as if Renelle's mind had a firewall that instead of eliminating and blocking the entry of data, signals and communication attempts simply sends them to an infinite warehouse like a black hole.

So even if she does not want to, Renelle House has learned data about Meredith's family without wanting to. Like that her father is indeed an academic at Columbia University being head of classical studies and that her mother is a student of the latter and nineteen years younger.

To Renelle this does not matter, the father can be eighty-one years old and the mother eighteen years old and Renelle will not care. As long as it is the will of both and being adults no one should interfere in their decisions.

What caught Renelle's attention was a -Strange Coincidence- with Meredith when through her parents' connections Meredith was going to study first at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, a medical school affiliated with Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Although Renelle does not know the map of this nation very well, the location of both university institutions is at least two hundred and fifty kilometers away.

According to the chatterbox Meredith, Renelle now knows that her parents are in New York and they were going to take their daughter to Maryland but a strange event made her parents' car travel for many hours on a long road where a dense fog did not allow seeing anything.

They could feel the passage of time and the terror was that the gas tank was gradually running out.

But somehow the fog disappeared and Meredith's parents' car ran out of fuel on the outskirts of Princeton in New Jersey.

When, Meredith had to control the steering wheel while her parents pushed the car to the nearest station, a car stopped to help them resulting in a doctor from Princeton-Plainsboro University Hospital.

Out of gratitude, Meredith decided to submit her papers to the university when the doctor saw that they were heading to another university with a medical school.

'a paranormal event on the highway?'

"If they were going to Baltimore they should have taken the direct route on Interstate 95 heading south. Although Princeton is in the same direction the route does not go through it. How did you end up on the outskirts of Princeton?"

"We do not know either. Dad was going on the I-95 route when the fog surrounded us, seriously it seems we spent almost a day on the road inside that fog! Dad had a full tank and suddenly we were in Princeton with an empty tank!"

"It is good that you got out of the fog, if the tank had run out inside the fog maybe you would never have been able to get out of the fog ~ " Renelle suddenly said covering her mouth and giving a macabre laugh, or at least she tried since on the face of a little girl with blonde hair and childish cheeks it seemed more like a cute grimace than to cause fear.

"What a scare!" Meredith shuddered just thinking about it

"jajaja" Renelle simply laughed at Meredith's reaction.

"You do not believe it right!?" Meredith upon seeing that the little blonde-haired girl was laughing stopped and put on an annoyed attitude.

She could not put her hands on her hips as a sign of annoyance because she was carrying many books, but she still wanted to give the attitude of being annoyed.

"A haunted highway? Really? The most likely is that your father, being an academic, is bad at driving and following directions. Surely it is not the first time driving and he also lied about filling the tank so as not to make your mother angry. Surely it is not the first time he gets lost on the road..." Renelle shrugged and pushed the double glass doors to enter the Princeton-Plainsboro hospital building.

"You may be right... But..." Meredith thought about Renelle's words and it is true what she says about her father, it is not the first time they get lost on the road or that the gas tank runs out and her mother always scolds him.

But she also felt that something was not right, the time they spent inside the fog on an infinite road was so real.

But without thinking about it anymore she entered chasing the little golden-haired girl. But.

"You! Are you House's daughter? What are you doing here? And where is House!?"

A strong voice full of command entered Meredith's ears that made her freeze instantly. The commanding female voice reminded her of her mother and the instinct of years of life made her stand at attention instantly.
