Chapter 13 - Light and Darkness

When Ash was following Instructor Kael on the way to the magic research division, a system message popped up,

[Sensing natural moonlight and space affinity, would the host like to hide it?]

'Hm? Why should I hide it?' Ash had no interest in hiding his powers, after all, what was the purpose of doing that?

[The moonlight affinity is only possessed by the royal family. If it is found out that the host is a royal, you and your twin can both be executed. As for the space affinity, it has never been discovered, so I'm afraid there are people who will feel threatened.]

'…Is this system sentient?' The way the system was talking was like it has its own mind. 'If I hide it, how will my powers be improved then?'

[The system has the means.]

'Really? Then do I have to pay?'

[…No.]

'Wait, seriously? That's… generous of you.' After all, the system had never given anything for free; they had to be bought with SPs. 'Anyway, maybe Lunaris was connected to his moonlight affinity?' Before he continued to ask, Instructor Kael's voice broke him out of his thoughts.

"Ash?" Kael was worried. Why wasn't this kid answering?

"Ah! Sorry, I was too excited." Ash pretended to be nervous.

"I see… Well, I was just about to tell you that it's going to be fine."

"Yes…"

Soon after the brief exchange, they arrived in front of a door. It wasn't the normal teaching hall, but an exclusive lab just for the magic research division.

After Kael knocked on the door, they let themselves in.

"It's you, Kael? How rare for you to visit us." The woman talking was probably the teacher for the magic research division. She wasn't very old, but she wasn't young either; perhaps she was in her 30s.

"Silvanna. I've got a kid who has dual affinity."

Silvanna's face changed as if Kael had just dropped a bomb. "Are you telling the truth?"

"Yes."

Then her face shone, "Oh my goodness! To think I can see a dual affinity in my life!" She ran over to Ash and started questioning Kael. "Is this the boy?"

"Correct. His name is Asher."

"And his affinities?"

"…Light and darkness."

"Wait, seriously?" The Silvanna's brows shot up. "Those are opposites. How is that even possible?"

"I don't know," he admitted. "That's exactly why I brought him to you."

"Hm… Let's do this again." She then grabbed a random magic orb, and Ash put his hand on it again.

The same thing happened, and two colors showed up, black and white. However, if one looked closer, the white on the previous result had a more silver hue, while the black had shine.

"It really is light and darkness affinity… Although I don't really know about dual affinities, their training should be the same as usual, but dual affinities are definitely better than the usual ones." Although dual affinities were really rare, the light and darkness affinities weren't really powerful. Of course, if used properly, they can be a deadly weapon.

"Alright." Kael was the one excited. After all, if Ash joined the magic combat division, he would be the one to teach him.

After they left, Kael advised Ash to join the magic combat division before they finally parted ways, and Ash returned to his dorm.

At his dorm,

"Ash, you're back." Ezra was already lying lazily on the couch.

"Yeah, which department did you try today?"

"The weapons department. But there's no way I'm going to go there again." Ezra sat up and started telling him his experience earlier. "But Ash, I heard you have a dual affinity. Is that true?" His eyes were literally sparkling.

"Yeah."

"Whoa! That's amazing!" Ezra's eyes lit up. "No surprise, you're first rank! What affinities were they?"

"Light and darkness."

Ezra blinked. "Wait… seriously? How does that even work?"

Ash shrugged. "No idea. Even the teachers didn't explain it."

"…Huh." Ezra tilted his head, then grinned. "Well, it sounds awesome anyway."

After that, they talked about a few things before they each went into their own separate rooms.

In his room, Ash checked on his stats like he always used to every week.

[Status:

Strength: 23

Stamina: 25

Agility: 19

Dexterity: 21

Intelligence: 50 (Cannot be changed using SP)

Luck: 10 (Cannot be changed using SP)

Mental Strength: 100 (Cannot be changed using SP)

Skills: 7]

'Hm… all of them has improved since before, but agility is still my weakest point, I should focus on it then.' He decided the next day would be used for the strategy department first, then the third day for crafts, and the fourth day for the weapons department.

After a while of working out, he invited Ezra to go to the canteen with him to eat dinner. Soon, they finished and went home. Ash just returned to his room and immediately went to sleep.

The next day was going to be interesting.
