The monster stepped into its own puddle of drool as it lumbered toward the pile of old chairs and desks that had shifted moments ago. Its massive body swayed with each step while its attention remained fixed on the corner where the disturbance had come from.
Seeing the creature move away from him, Rim Young carefully pushed himself up from the ground into a sitting position. His muscles were tense, and he moved with painstaking caution, afraid that even the slightest sound would draw the monster's attention back to him. For a brief moment, it seemed to be working. The monster continued toward the pile of furniture without looking back. Encouraged, Rim Young slowly began lifting himself off the ground. He had barely gotten halfway up when the monster suddenly stopped.
