Chapter 88 - The Shooter

Davis's POV

I drove to the hospital as fast as I could after Vael called me. My hands gripped the steering wheel tightly. They were shaking a little. My heart was beating hard in my chest. The news that Lirien had moved his finger felt like a light breaking through weeks of darkness. I needed to see it for myself. I needed to be there with him and Vael.

The city streets passed by in a blur. I did not care about the traffic lights or the other cars. All I could think about was Lirien.

I parked the car quickly and almost ran through the hospital entrance. The private wing was quiet and familiar now. I had spent so many hours here that the nurses knew me by name. When I reached Lirien's room, Vael was waiting outside in the hallway. He looked tired, with dark circles under his eyes, but there was a real smile on his face. A small, hopeful smile I had not seen in weeks.

"Davis," he said, stepping forward and pulling me into a quick, strong hug.
