Vael's POV
I closed the door behind me and smiled when I saw Lirien sitting by the window, looking out at the stars. He turned to me with bright eyes, but I could still see a little nervousness in them.
"Come sit with me," I said, patting the bed beside me.
He came over and sat down. I took his hand naturally, loving how perfectly it fit in mine.
"In two days, there's going to be a big farewell party for all the crew and passengers," I told him. "It's a tradition before we land on Earth. Everyone will be there, dancing, eating, drinking. The best part is that it's a masquerade party. Everyone has to wear a mask that covers their eyes and upper face."
Lirien's eyes widened with interest.
"That means nobody will recognize you easily," I continued. "You can attend if you want to. You've been stuck hiding for so long. I thought it might be nice for you to enjoy one night as a normal person on this ship."
Lirien bit his lip, thinking. "You really want me to go?"
