Chapter 37 - Experience Experience

After going around and finding nothing, the day ended with Hound Dog reporting directly to the police station of their findings while Yoshiki was free to go home.

"Tomorrow, I'll show you around the station and then proceed with the work experience." said Inui to him.

Night came and after chatting with his friends, he slept soundly and woke up to the same routine. He flew directly to the police station to see Hound Dog already waiting for him.

"Did you track my scent here?" asked Hound Dog, because he never told Yoshiki to go directly to the Police Station, so he planned to let him go to U.A. first and let him track his way here. He even purposely left his scent all around.

Yoshiki shook his head, "I just thought maybe I should go here."

Hound Dog looked at him for a little while longer before deciding to let it be. Huffing, he led Yoshiki. "Whatever, come with me."

Yoshiki followed behind him as Hound Dog walked to a room, casually greeting police officers on the way. Inside, there are several cases that's pinned on the board, and there are shelves with labels on them.

Seeing his gaze, Hound Dog explained. "This room contains several unfinished cases, some of them left here for years, some recent. This room contains several evidences left on the scene of the crime."

He motioned to the shelves, "It is created exactly for us. Those with Quirks that could help solve a crime. It's what I usually do in my free time. Back when I was more active, I'd be here sniffing and solving cases." His face showed a bit of nostalgia, but Yoshiki had a different thought.

"You are kinda weird, huh? Inui-sensei."

This irked Hound Dog so he bonked him. "I'm a great detective."

Yoshiki rubbed his head, "Right."

He looked around, and one particular case caught his interest titled "Specter Case". He checked it and asked Hound Dog.

"Oh, that? Give it up, it's a helpless case. The scene of the crime brutal yet for some reason, it is also way too clean. Nobody could even track it. Not even me. No scent, no nothing. Almost as if…"

"The person who did it also has a Quirk related to tracking, and so they know how to go around it?" Yoshiki concluded.

Hound Dog nodded his head, "Exactly, you'd think they'd leave something, like a chemical used to cover or erase proof. But no, there's just… nothing."

Hound Dog pondered about something.

"Come to think about it, this case was pretty famous like a year or so ago. And then it suddenly stopped. Hopefully the suspect died in a ditch somewhere."

Yoshiki nodded but refuted his claims, "Who knows? Maybe he just found happiness?"

This reply made Hound Dog chuckle, "Yeah right, they targeted mostly criminals too, so I guess they're just in it for revenge? Maybe they really did find happiness."

Perhaps it was the moment, or perhaps it was because of trust, but Hound Dog didn't seem to properly get what Yoshiki said. Yet again, this is a story for another time.

They moved on to more recent cases, but he wander off as he let Hound Dog pick what he wanted to do. He checked the dates as he went, some ranged from 2 years, some 5 years, but the oldest of it was 16 years ago.

It is just a simple dress in blood, already old but maintained. They put it in a plastic cover. It was labeled 'Hanako'. Just that. He was about to touch it when a hand stopped his wrist.

Instantly, his instincts went into overdrive. He tried moving but found that he can't do it. He was shaking all over, his back drenched in cold sweat.

'I'm… scared..?' he thought, fighting the urge to look up. If he moves, he dies. That's what his instincts were telling him.

"Oh? Detective Ozano!" thankfully, his savior came and all the pressure vanished. He immediately took a deep breath, stabilizing himself.

"Hound Dog? It's nice to see you're doing well." Said Detective Ozano. They greeted each other and talked for a while before Detective Ozano finally moved on, but not before telling Yoshiki something.

"Be careful what you touch, some evidence here are quite fragile."

He finally left, and Yoshiki could finally breath a sigh of relief. Hound Dog seemed to understand what happened.

"Detective Ozano, his Quirk is Intimidation. Once active, he could even freeze a person in place due to sheer fear." He sighed, reminiscing. "I admit, I was pretty scared of him ar first too, but after getting to know him, you will see he is quite sweet. He goes around looking scary, but he still cares for others quite well. Some officers think of him as a reliable brother."

Yoshiki could just nod and ask what the evidence was about. Hound Dog looked at it with sadness in his eyes.

"This evidence was from a family. A mother and her 2 daughters got into an accident. This dress belonged to one daughter, I don't know much about it, but this case has been unsolved for 16 years. There was an accident, it claimed their lives. Detective Ozano had been obsessed with this case for as far as I know. In fact, according to stories, this was the first case he ever had, and the only one he never solved."

Yoshiki thought about it before saying, "May I sniff it?"

Hound Dog snickered, "What, are you a weirdo?" Yoshiki just gave him a glare as he let him do it.

"It's hopeless, it's been here for 16 years and had been tangled with all kinds of scents that ever tried to solve it. If your sense of smell is good, you'd probably smell me on it too."

Yoshiki ignored him and opened the plastic cover. He closed his eyes and took a whiff. A myriads of smell hit him all at once. Oldness, iron, a dog. Yet the strongest scent he could smell on it was the one Detective Ozano had. Which made sense considering he had spent a lot of time with it.

After a moment, Yoshiki covered it again shaking his head. "It really is hopeless."

"Told you so, let's go. Sniff this knife, this was a recent case of robbery. The victim is safe but suffered a stab wound. The robber took off with their belongings."

The two worked on it for a while, tracking where the scent end up. They were led to a run down house. They stopped a few distances away from it. Yoshiki checked with his eyes and saw two people inside.

"There's two? Well then, I will bust open the door and then we'll just beat them up." said Hound Dog.

Yoshiki looked at him in suspicion. 'Is this guy really a Pro Hero..?'

Hound Dog got into position so Yoshiki just thought to follow him. Hound Dog ran straight through the door shoulder first, with Yoshiki trailing behind.

BANG!

The door flew open and they instantly got into action. Hound Dog leaped to the nearest person, pinning him to the ground and growling on his face. Yoshiki slammed the other guy with his electric staff, instantly incapacitating him.

Hound Dog growled and howled on the other guy's face before Yoshiki stepped in because apparently, Hound Dog was asking where the belongings are but what came out were all just jumbled mess of dog language.

The scared dude spilled everything, they got the belongings. Apparently, the other guy was the buyer of the stolen goods, they were able to confiscate

and retrieve a lot of things. The day ended like that. At least it's kinda successful.
