Kaelen's POV
I stood motionless in the shadows, watching Genevieve struggle against the restraints that bound her wrists behind her back. When she finally noticed my presence, her voice shattered the silence like broken glass.
"Kaelen." The single word cracked as it left her lips. "What the hell is this."
I remained several feet away, studying her carefully. Her chest rose and fell in rapid succession. Her hands trembled where they were secured behind her. The sight should have moved me to pity, but all I felt was cold satisfaction.
"I apologize for the methods," I said, my voice devoid of warmth. "But this was the only way I could see to finish what we started."
Genevieve's mouth fell open, then snapped shut, then opened again like a fish gasping for air. "What are you talking about?"
"It became obvious that you would sacrifice anyone and everyone to protect that monster you call a father."
