Lucien POV
I chose this café for a reason.
I didn't pick the private members' club where I hold meetings. I want to keep quiet. I didn't choose the back corner of a hotel restaurant where the staff are trained to be invisible.
I chose a place with a glass front, right on the street, the kind of spot where anyone walking by could look in and see two people having coffee in the middle of the afternoon.
Before I left, I told Jin, "Let Seraphina's team know I'm at Marchetti's. I'll be back by three."
Jin didn't ask why I needed to keep them in the loop about my coffee plans. She was far too professional for that. But I caught that subtle, quick look she got whenever she was filing away information she found interesting.
I wasn't hiding anything. That was the whole point. The moment you start tucking things away that don't need to be hidden, they start to look like secrets.
