Seraphina POV
I wore black.
Not because I was making an entrance or getting noticed, because I am already past making entrance I mean my name has been in the hottest search for the past months.
I wore it because it was the colour I reached for now when I am trying to prove something. When I needed to feel like myself. The black blazer, the tailored trousers, the heels that clicked at the exact pace I wanted them to. Simple, classy and elegantly.
Mary met me in the lobby at eight forty-five with the folders of four copies of the full report, bound and tabbed, prepared by Kai's team and reviewed by Chen overnight. She was in her best professional grey and she had the expression she wore when she'd been ready for this for a long time.
Chen was already there with two members of his team, standing near the elevator with the energy of lawyers who had spent weeks building and digging evidence and were finally about to use it.
"Ready?" Chen asked.
"Yes," I said.
We went up.
