Chapter 14 - Stark naked

MIA

Am I dreaming? How could I be in Lake Town? Killian brought me along on his business trip… unless…

Before I could think further, the door clicked open and thanks to the cat instincts, I realized that the sound of footsteps sounded unfamiliar.

I quickly slipped behind a curtain, peeking out carefully.

A beautiful woman walked in. She wore a provocative nightgown, her body swaying with each step.

In her hands, she held a golden candle holder, which she placed on a nearby counter before moving toward the bed.

Then, without hesitation, she slipped out of her nightgown, her posture confident and deliberate.

Sitting there half-naked, she remained completely unaware of the black kitten in the corner aka me staring at her with my jaw sweeping the floor.

In more than two decades of my life, I hadn't witnessed a sight like this. Wait…

It couldn't be… it couldn't be… A sudden realization hit me.

So coming to Lake Town wasn't a coincidence at all…

Despite its downsides, Lake Town was famous for its breathtaking scenery. It was even listed among the top 20 honeymoon destinations in the country.

Hmm, so under the excuse of an "important meeting," that shameless demon actually came here with his lover?

The more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Feeling oddly proud of my deduction, my tail shot up but in the next moment, it went limp.

Does that mean… I have to witness their date… night?

My eyes slowly shifted toward the woman, who had already started undoing her underwear.

'Ah the body of a goddess…' I flinched at my own shamelessness, 'Mia, ah, Mia, staying with rotten apples surely turns you into one.'

I looked away from the tempting sight with unwavering and partially wavering determination. I need to get out of here.

The thought hit me suddenly.

I was in Lake Town and the orphanage wasn't far from here. I had disappeared without a word for almost a month. Olivia must be worried as well.

My gaze flicked toward the bed, then toward the woman, still completely absorbed in herself, preparing for what was clearly meant to be a "romantic" night.

A scoff echoed in my mind. Perfect. While that shameless demon is busy with his date. He won't even notice I'm gone.

This was my chance.

Carefully, I slipped out from behind the curtain, keeping low to the ground. My tiny paws made no sound against the plush carpet as I crept toward the door.

Suddenly—

My body jerked violently.

A sharp, searing pain shot through me, like invisible chains yanking me back. My limbs stiffened mid-step, and I collapsed onto the floor.

"Meow—!"

A cry tore out of me, high-pitched and strained with pain.

It felt like something was pulling me, dragging me back, refusing to let me go any farther.

"What the… a cat—?!" the woman screamed.

My body trembled uncontrollably as another jolt surged through me.

Before the woman could get a proper look at me, instinct took I bolted.

My trembling body lurched toward the curtains, each movement sending another violent ripple through me. It felt as though something deep inside was shifting and stretching.

My limbs twisted unnaturally, a strange heat spreading under my skin as if I were being pulled apart and stitched back together at the same time.

A broken cry escaped my throat as I stumbled forward, desperate to hide.

What is happening to me…?

The curtains were suddenly yanked apart.

"That cat, did it run to the bathroom…" The woman trailed off mid-sentence.

I froze.

The woman stood there, her expression transforming from irritation to disbelief.

"You—You bitch!"

I felt speechless. Hey, I was clearly a cat, okay?

"They should've told me they already sent someone for the job."

"Job…? What job?" The sound of my own voice cut through my thoughts like a blade.

It has been so long since I heard my own voice, anywhere outside my thoughts. I lifted a hand to my throat…

And then I paused. A hand. The paws were gone. The fur was gone.

My mind went blank.

"You shameless woman…! So, President Volkov likes the naive kind, huh?!" The woman uttered stuff that went parallel to my head.

Without another glance, she turned and stormed away.

I remained where I was, frozen in confusion.

Wait… Shameless…? Why am I shameless?

I had barely moved an inch when I caught my reflection in the mirror.

My breath caught in my throat.

Two soft curves rose with each unsteady inhale, unfamiliar yet undeniably mine. My skin was bare, completely bare, as it glowed faintly under the soft lighting of the room.

Heat rushed to my face so fast it made me dizzy.

I was stark naked.

'Click.'

The sound of the doorknob was swift but it might as well have been thunder.
