Chapter 13 - 'He is the kindest'

Later that evening, one human and one cat sat on the dining table, each looking absolutely upset with the other.

If looks could kill, the look on the kitten's face would have absolutely sent Killian to hell by then.

After Killian spent his entire afternoon giving Mia a bath and cleaning her up. By now, she had come to be disgusted by the sight of water.

By the end of it, the man even warned her 'Don't think about running away again'.

Mia didn't know whether to cry or laugh. How did she escape one predator only to end up with another? Pathetic of all was that she had come back willingly because she was hungry and tired.

She had thought things would be easy since Killian had left for his business trip but who could've known the man would be back for who knows what?

"Young master, those old geezers are blasting the phone," Kevin came to report, "They have all gathered for the meeting but… you returned due to family emergency…"

As he spoke, Kevin shot Mia a gaze.

Mia was bewildered. He returned for me…?

"What else?" Killian was completely unbothered as he ate.

"Ah, the city lockdown has been lifted since Little Lady Jade has been found."

Mia: "_" The lockdown… was done by Killian? For her?

"Mm, make arrangements for the trip. We will leave tonight," Killian coolly turned to Mia.

Mia stiffened in her heighted chair. It was better not to act up lest he got another mood swing.

Killian observed the kitten for some time before he spoke again, "Bring her along."

Mia: "_" Can I turn down the offer?

…

MIA

I couldn't turn down the offer really. Killian 'the jerk' Volkov left me with no choice.

I wasn't caught red-handed escaping the Sapphire Mansion because of the lack of cameras and when Killian found me, I was already in his room. So, my adventures and near-death experience outside was something only I knew of.

But for some reason, I felt like Killian didn't need any evidence to know what I had been up to. Everytime he looked at me, he seemed to be able to see right past all my pretenses.

Perched on his forearm, I could feel the firmness of his palm on my back. His grip felt like an invisible cage.

I tried to move, but the man didn't let me budge an inch.

"What? Trying to run away again?" Killian flipped his hand and held me both his hands, making me face him, "The outside world is not as kind as me, Jade."

'Yeah, of course, you are the kindest.' "Meow." I closed my eyes and played dead so the man would free me.

Unfortunately, the man put me in his lap and treated me like his soft toy the entire way, stroking and poking as he wished.

I gritted my teeth and bared the humiliation for a while but before I realized, exhaustion claimed me. And I started dozing off on the man's lap.

Surprisingly, his palm movements seemed to become gentler as I drifted off. I didn't know if it was an illusion or not, but I heard him whispering something,"You'd like the place we are heading to, Jade…"

In my heart, I scoffed. At this point, I only wanted to go back to my hometown. Anywhere else in the world, no matter how good the place, I wouldn't find peace at all.

I had unfinished work and children like Little Doe still waiting for me in the Lake Town

"Who are you?"

The stern voice jolted me awake.

When I opened my eyes, I realized I was lying on a luxurious king-sized bed, buried deep in soft blankets.

Above me, the mirrored ceiling reflected my tiny form and I froze briefly at the sight of a black kitten staring back.

I absent-mindedly lifted my paw to my face, my mind still hazy with sleep. Am I going to stay like this forever?

Frustration bubbled up instantly. With a huff, I threw myself onto the bed and rolled back and forth, as if that might magically fix everything.

It didn't. Other than ruffling my fur, nothing changed.

Sighing, I jumped off the bed and looked around. It didn't take long to realize that I was in a hotel room.

Looks like that jerk has already left for work…

Muttering to myself, I hopped onto the windowsill. But just as I tried to nudge the window open, I realized it was secured with a child lock.

I stared at it, my tiny face scrunching up in annoyance. That bastard really treats me like his property now…

My thoughts cut off the moment I looked outside. Snow-capped mountains greeted my eyes with a vast stretch of dark, brooding skies. Everything looked so familiar.

My eyes widened in shock. Lake Town?

I rubbed my eyes with my paw, hard.

When I looked again, the scene didn't change.
