Chapter 46 - What She Never Planned

Lucy woke up slowly.

For a few seconds, she didn't move.

She just stared at the ceiling, her body feeling unfamiliar… heavy in a way she couldn't explain.

Then it came back.

Everything.

Her breath caught.

Her eyes widened slightly.

And just like that—

Her chest tightened.

"No…" she whispered.

She sat up suddenly, pulling the sheet tightly around herself like she was trying to hide from something that had already happened.

Her hands trembled.

Her heart started racing.

"This… this wasn't supposed to happen," she whispered to herself.

Her voice broke.

Tears filled her eyes before she could stop them.

"I didn't plan this…"

Her shoulders shook as the tears finally fell.

Not soft.

Not quiet.

"I wanted to wait…" she cried.

"I wanted to keep it… for the man I would marry…"

Her voice cracked completely now.

"I didn't want it like this…"

"Lucy."

She froze.

Adrian's voice was calm, but closer now.

"Don't," she said quickly, turning her face away.

"Don't come close to me."

Adrian didn't stop.

He moved closer anyway.

Slowly.

Carefully.

"Look at me," he said.

She shook her head hard.

"I said don't!"

Her hand pushed against his chest.

Adrian didn't move.

Tears kept falling from her eyes.

"I trusted you…" she said, her voice breaking again.

"I didn't think it would happen like this… I didn't even understand what I was feeling…"

Her fists hit his chest weakly.

Again.

And again.

"I didn't want to lose it like this!" she cried.

"I didn't want it to just happen… without meaning… without—"

"It has meaning," Adrian said firmly.

She shook her head immediately.

"No!"

Her hands pushed him harder now.

Anger mixing with pain.

"You don't understand!" she snapped.

"It's different for me! I wanted it to be special… I wanted to choose it… I wanted to be ready…"

Her voice dropped, softer now.

"I wasn't ready…"

That silence that followed felt heavier than anything.

Adrian's expression changed slightly.

Not anger.

Not frustration.

Something deeper.

He reached for her wrists gently, stopping her from hitting him again.

"Lucy," he said quietly,

"look at me."

She tried to pull away.

"Let go of me!"

"I'm not letting you break down like this," he replied.

That only made her more emotional.

"You already did!" she cried.

That hit.

Hard.

For a second, even Adrian didn't speak.

Lucy pushed him again.

Harder this time.

And this time—

He let her go.

She didn't wait.

She ran.

Straight to the bathroom.

The door slammed shut.

Locked.

"Lucy."

Adrian walked to the door immediately.

"Open the door."

Inside, Lucy covered her mouth, trying to hold back her sobs, but they kept coming.

"I said open it."

Nothing.

Minutes passed.

"Lucy," he said again, his voice lower now.

"We need to talk."

"No!" she cried from inside.

"Just leave me alone!"

Adrian's jaw tightened.

But he stayed there.

Time passed slowly.

Too slowly.

An hour.

And the door still didn't open.

"Lucy," he said again, quieter this time.

"You can't stay in there forever."

No answer.

That was when his patience snapped.

He stepped back.

Then forward.

The door shook.

Once.

Twice.

Then—

It broke open.

Lucy stepped back immediately, her eyes red, her face wet with tears.

"Don't come close to me," she said quickly.

Adrian stopped.

He didn't move forward this time.

He just looked at her.

Really looked at her.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then he reached to the side, picked up a piece of clothing, and held it out to her.

"Wear this."

Lucy hesitated.

Then took it.

Without looking at him.

She turned away and quickly put it on, her hands still shaking.

When she was done—

She didn't say anything.

She walked straight toward the door.

Adrian stepped slightly forward.

"Lucy—"

She pushed him.

Hard.

"Move."

Her voice was cold now.

Different.

Adrian didn't stop her.

She walked out.

Fast.

Without turning back.

The door slammed behind her.

And for the first time—

She wasn't just running away from the moment.

She was running away from him.
