Chapter 25 - Day Two

Lucy got to the company early.

Earlier than she needed to.

She stood outside for a few seconds before going in.

Just looking at the building.

Then she walked inside.

No rush.

No panic.

She picked up her cleaning tools.

And started working.

Mopping the floor.

Wiping glass.

Arranging desks.

The same routine.

But her eyes—

They weren't on the work.

They were watching everything.

People passing.

Who came early.

Who avoided her.

The whispers hadn't stopped.

"She's still coming?"

"I thought they would suspend her again…"

Lucy kept her head down.

Like she didn't hear anything.

After a while—

She moved toward the hallway near the file room.

A security guard stood there.

Lucy slowed down.

Then walked up to him.

"Good morning," she said.

The guard nodded once. "Morning."

Lucy hesitated.

"Can I ask you something?"

He looked at her briefly.

"Depends."

Lucy swallowed.

"Two weeks ago… there was an issue with the file room."

The guard's face didn't change.

"I don't know anything about that," he said immediately.

Lucy blinked.

"Are you sure? Maybe you saw—"

"I said I don't know," he cut in, a bit firmer.

Silence.

Lucy nodded slowly.

"Okay… sorry."

She turned and walked away.

Her chest felt heavy.

Either he truly didn't know—

Or he didn't want to get involved.

And she couldn't force him.

She continued her work.

Quietly.

Time passed.

Nothing changed.

Later—

She walked into the file room again.

Closed the door.

Stood still for a moment.

Then exhaled.

"Think…" she whispered.

She moved to the system.

Turned it on.

Checked the logs again.

Her ID.

Still there.

Same time.

Same night.

Lucy stared at the screen.

"I wasn't here at this time…." she said under her breath.

She scrolled again.

Looked harder.

Slower.

Nothing new.

She checked the shelves again.

Opened files.

Moved things slightly.

Everything looked untouched.

Perfect.

Too perfect.

Lucy stepped back.

Her hands slowly dropped to her sides.

"No… this is not working…" she whispered.

She walked around the room again.

Trying.

Searching.

Looking for anything

Out of place.

But there was nothing.

Nothing missing.

Nothing hidden.

Nothing wrong.

Just silence.

Lucy leaned against the table.

Her chest rising slowly.

Day two

And she still had nothing.

No proof.

No clue.

No help.

Just her word.

And that wasn't enough.

Her eyes burned slightly.

But she didn't cry.

Not here.

Not now.

She straightened up slowly.

"I can't give up…" she whispered.

But even as she said it

It didn't feel strong.

Because time was moving.

And she was still standing in the same place.

Outside the room

Someone passed by.

Paused for a second.

Then kept walking.

Like nothing mattered.
