Chapter 33 - Chapter 33- The Story Of The Last Row

It started with a simple question.

They were sitting in the cafeteria again, trays half-finished, Zhao Ming arguing about food portions like it was a serious national issue.

Lin Yue put her chopsticks down and looked at them.

"You've mentioned it so many times now," she said.

"The 'Last Row Trio.' What is it actually?"

Zhao Ming immediately sat up straight like he had been waiting his whole life for this moment.

"Finally," he said.

"Someone asks the right question."

Su Ran laughed.

"You've been trying to tell her for days."

"Because it is an important story," Zhao Ming said seriously.

Jiang Chen leaned back slightly in his chair, quiet as usual.

But this time, he didn't interrupt.

---

The Beginning

"It started in high school," Zhao Ming began dramatically.

"In a classroom that was too quiet and too boring."

"It wasn't that boring," Su Ran said.

"It was boring until I arrived," Zhao Ming corrected.

Lin Yue smiled.

"Of course."

Zhao Ming pointed at Jiang Chen.

"He sat in the last row first. Alone. Quiet. Like a mysterious genius."

"That's accurate," Su Ran said.

Jiang Chen didn't deny it.

"Then," Zhao Ming continued,

"I sat there too. Because I like freedom and less supervision."

"You sat there because you talked too much," Su Ran said.

"That is also true," he admitted.

Lin Yue looked at Su Ran.

"And you?"

"I ended up there later," she said.

"Because… I don't know. It just happened."

Zhao Ming nodded.

"Fate."

---

The Everyday Moments

Su Ran smiled slightly as she continued.

"We didn't become close immediately. It was just small things."

"Like what?" Lin Yue asked.

"Walking home after school," Su Ran said.

"Studying together. Sharing snacks. Arguing about nothing."

"Throwing paper balls in the library," Zhao Ming added proudly.

"That was your fault," Jiang Chen said.

Zhao Ming pointed at him.

"You threw one too."

"You hit me first," Jiang Chen replied.

Lin Yue laughed softly.

"So it wasn't one big moment," she said.

"It was a lot of small ones."

Jiang Chen nodded.

"Yes."

---

The Important Part

Zhao Ming suddenly leaned forward.

"And then," he said, lowering his voice dramatically,

"we made history."

"This sounds fake," Lin Yue said.

"It's real," Su Ran said, smiling.

"We wrote on our desk," Zhao Ming said.

"In the corner. Very small."

Lin Yue blinked.

"What did you write?"

Su Ran said softly,

"'Last Row Trio was here. Do not forget. We were very happy here.'"

Lin Yue was quiet for a moment.

"That's actually… really nice," she said.

Zhao Ming looked proud.

"Yes. We are deep people."

---

The Ending That Wasn't an Ending

"And then we graduated," Zhao Ming continued.

"Very emotional. Very dramatic. I almost cried."

"You didn't cry," Su Ran said.

"I cried inside," he replied.

Jiang Chen said quietly,

"We thought everything would change after that."

Lin Yue looked at him.

"But it didn't," she said.

He shook his head slightly.

"No. It changed… but not completely."

Su Ran smiled.

"We still ended up together."

Zhao Ming spread his arms.

"Same university. Same chaos. Same group."

Lin Yue looked at all three of them.

"I get it now," she said.

"It's not just a name."

"No," Jiang Chen said quietly.

"It's not."

---

Something New

After that day, something felt a little different.

Not in a big, obvious way.

Just… small changes.

The kind you only notice if you're paying attention.

---

Jiang Chen Changes

One afternoon during lunch, Zhao Ming suddenly froze mid-bite.

Su Ran looked at him.

"What?"

He pointed slowly across the table.

"Look," he whispered.

She turned.

Jiang Chen was talking to Lin Yue.

Not just answering.

Actually talking.

"And then the professor said the assignment would be group-based," Jiang Chen was saying.

Lin Yue nodded.

"That's better than individual work."

"Yeah," he said.

"It's less stressful."

Zhao Ming grabbed Su Ran's arm dramatically.

"HE IS TALKING," he whispered loudly.

"He always talks," Su Ran said.

"No," Zhao Ming said.

"This is different. This is… conversation."

Lin Yue looked at them.

"Why are you both staring?"

Zhao Ming pointed at Jiang Chen.

"He is evolving," he said.

Jiang Chen looked at him.

"Stop being weird."

---

Smiling More

It wasn't just talking.

Jiang Chen started smiling more too.

Small smiles. Quiet ones. But more frequent.

At Zhao Ming's jokes.

At Su Ran's comments.

Even sometimes during class.

One day, Su Ran noticed it clearly.

They were walking across campus, just the two of them.

"You smile more now," she said.

He looked at her.

"Do I?"

"Yes," she said.

"Before, you were always serious."

He thought for a moment.

"Maybe I just didn't have a reason to smile that much before."

She raised an eyebrow slightly.

"And now?"

He looked at her and said simply,

"Now I do."

She didn't reply immediately.

But she smiled.

---

Zhao Ming's Conclusion

That evening, Zhao Ming made a dramatic announcement.

"I have reached a conclusion," he said.

"No one asked," Su Ran replied.

"I will say it anyway," he continued.

He pointed at Jiang Chen.

"He used to be quiet, serious, and slightly scary."

"I was not scary," Jiang Chen said.

"You were a little scary," Zhao Ming said.

Then he pointed at Su Ran.

"And now, because of her, he smiles more, talks more, and is becoming a normal human."

"This is rude," Jiang Chen said.

"This is accurate," Zhao Ming replied.

Lin Yue laughed.

"I think it's nice," she said.

Su Ran looked at Jiang Chen and smiled slightly.

Jiang Chen didn't argue this time.

Because deep down,

he knew Zhao Ming was right.

---

The Group

Four people sat at a table.

Talking, laughing, arguing about nothing important.

But somehow, everything felt important.

A story that started in the last row of a classroom had grown into something bigger.

Not just three people anymore.

Not just high school memories anymore.

But something that continued, changed, and grew.

And as Jiang Chen sat there, listening to Zhao Ming talk too much and Su Ran laugh,

he realized something quietly,

The last row wasn't just a place.

It was where everything began.

And now,

it was something they carried with them, wherever they went.
