Chapter 21 - The Mortal Veil and the Echoes of the Past

Forty years. For a being who had once perceived time as a malleable construct, forty years felt like a mere blink. Yet, Lu Kai had embraced it. He had stepped down from the role of Sect Guardian, entrusting the Platinum Sect's stewardship entirely to Tian Zhu and the capable hands of his disciples. He sought not the pinnacle of cultivation realms, but the quiet rhythm of a mortal existence.

He journeyed far from the Platinum Sect's domain, eventually settling in a remote, peaceful city. There, he purchased a modest house with a spacious backyard, a sanctuary for his chosen path. For four decades, he lived a life dedicated to the arts he had mastered. His calligraphy flowed with the wisdom of ages, his paintings captured the spirit of the world – from serene landscapes to vibrant mythical beasts. His wood carving skills brought life to simple blocks of timber. These were not mere hobbies; they were meditations, expressions of his profound understanding of existence, and, as he had intended, a path to unlocking the deeper potential of his 18 Origin powers. Through these earthly pursuits, he had finally unlocked the advanced powers of all his Origin elements, not through raw combat or cultivation, but through artistry and contemplation.

One sun-drenched afternoon, as Lu Kai was adding a final stroke to a painting of a golden dragon roaring against a celestial backdrop, a young girl, no older than eighteen and at the Qi Refinement Realm, approached his humble dwelling. Her clothes were torn and stained, her eyes wide with distress. Desperate, she knocked on the door.

Lu Kai, sensing her distress, opened the door. He still carried the aura of profound peace and power he had cultivated over forty years, but his appearance was that of a learned, perhaps skilled, but not overtly divine, man.

"Please, someone in this house," the girl pleaded, her voice trembling, "please, I seek help! My sect… they were all slaughtered by demons!"

Lu Kai, his divine sense still as potent as ever, looked at her. He could pierce through the veil of her words and see the ravaged remnants of her sect – a scene of utter devastation, with no survivors. The girl's sect was indeed gone, reduced to ash and despair by a demonic onslaught.

He met her gaze, his expression calm but grave. "There is a sect to the far east, in Hanli City," Lu Kai advised, his voice carrying a weight of ancient knowledge. "Join the Platinum Sect. They are not listed in the usual sect rankings, for they do not participate in such competitions, but they are a place of refuge and strength."

The girl looked confused. "The Platinum Sect? I... I have never heard of it, Sir."

Lu Kai smiled faintly. He picked up the painting he had just finished, the golden dragon seeming to writhe with latent power. Beneath the roaring dragon, his calligraphy proclaimed: "Dragon Fist." "This is an inheritance," he said, handing her the painting. "The Inheritance of the Golden Dragon. It will guide you. Take this, and seek out the Platinum Sect in Hanli City. Your path lies with them."

The girl accepted the painting with trembling hands, a flicker of hope igniting in her eyes. She bowed deeply and turned towards the east.

Once she was gone, Lu Kai's demeanor shifted. The peaceful mortal facade receded, replaced by the profound power he had kept contained. He waved his hand, and a shimmering, unstable rift tore open in the air – a dimension portal. From it, he gently pulled his sister, Lu Er, into his backyard.

Lu Er gasped, disoriented but recognizing her brother. "Lu Kai! What is this? What happened?"

Lu Kai embraced her, a rare display of emotion. "Sister," he said, his voice soft, "I have much to tell you. And I have a gift." He presented her with a crystal, radiating an intense, icy aura – a Nevermelt Ice Roaring Frost Dragon Crystal.

As Lu Er absorbed the crystal's power, her body underwent a profound transformation. The System, which had acknowledged her original "S-Class talent" from the Ranker world, could not directly convert that into cultivation power within this new world. However, it could now *observe* and *classify* the immense power she was manifesting. The crystal's energy, combined with her inherent talent and the System's recognition of her origin, resulted in her power solidifying into what the System designated as **"UL (Ultra Class)."** She felt an immediate transformation, not just in power, but in her very being.

"This crystal," Lu Kai explained, "will grant you immense power. But it comes with a price. Your physical age will increase by two years, and after that, you will remain perpetually at this perfected, youthful state." He looked at her, a hint of melancholy in his immortal eyes. "You have much to learn, but now, you have the strength to face it."
