Lira found him later.
"You're going too far," she said.
Kael turned. "I'm getting stronger."
"You're getting closer to losing yourself."
That stopped him.
"I won't," he said.
"You don't know that," she replied.
Silence.
Then she stepped closer, taking his hand.
The flame steadied instantly.
"…Promise me," she whispered.
Kael met her eyes.
"…I'll fight it."
She shook her head.
"Not enough."
A pause.
"…Fight for yourself."
That hit deeper.
Kael nodded.
"…I will."
