Leander slowly opened his eyes, feeling as though every part of his body was aching at once.
His vision was unfocused, and for a moment, everything around him seemed to blur together before gradually becoming clearer. He could hear his mother's voice somewhere nearby, strained with fear and anger.
"How could this have happened?" Rosalind asked, her voice trembling despite how hard she tried to keep it steady. "Who even allowed him beside those horses unsupervised?" she questioned.
Rowan glanced at her, his eyes narrowing slightly, although he said nothing.
He could only let out a heavy sigh while the physician continued examining Leander. He had known something could go wrong. There had been a feeling in his gut that he could not quite shake, but Leander had been determined to prove that he was responsible enough to take care of the horses, and Rowan had wanted to give him the chance to show that he could.
