Chapter 4 - Chapter Four: Foresight

Pia and James sit there shaking before Pia blurted out, "I need some air!" She ran out of the house. Nolen looked at James walking towards him, grabbing his arm, saying, "Do not tell another soul about this or you both could be killed." James thought to himself, "For an old man he has some impressive strength," he then nodded, "I should go check on her to make sure she was okay." He walked out of the house just in time to see the sun about to set. Pia was sitting on a nearby bench, and he sat down far away from her. Then saying, trying to be more cheerful, "You okay Pia?" She looked at him, shaking her head no, then spoke with a hint of fear in her tone. "We are not prepared for this fight. He said there are others out there that are supposed to help?! We don't know where they are or who they are. Or if they are even in this universe at this point!" James looked at her, saying, "We got this Pia we talked to the Nolen for help and-." "NO we can't, James." Pia, now shaking with anger, said, "James, we don't know how to fight, we are just teenagers, and we can't save this world." James snapped back. "We can train, we can fight for a better world!" Pia snapped back, "Why do you have so much hope for a challenge too large for us combined! You know how idiotic that sounds!?" James looked at her, "If I don't have hope I have nothing at all!" Both of them now had quiet tears streaming down their faces. He looked away, thinking of the past couple of years, taking a deep breath, looking around, seeing that the street had become empty, and said, "I didn't have a great childhood at all as they believed in hope." He wore a torn smile as he looked at her sitting six feet away. "Hope it's so dumb to think about if you think about it." Pia couldn't speak; she never seemed to act so differently. "That was the only thing that got me through the times, sorry for pushing you." Pia looked at him, moving slightly closer. "I didn't have a great childhood either, my mom and dad were parents at least but I always had my younger sister with me until-" She took a very deep inhale and exhaled. "I am sorry for yelling at you too." James put back on his smile, and she got up, "Okay enough of the tears making my head hurt I am going to talk with the guy- Nolan for more information." James blushed as she walked into the house, then looked at the sun disappearing down at his golden ring, and mumbled to himself, "Hope."

Pia walked through the house, seeing Nolen looking down. Nolen looked at her, saying, "Sorry about all this information being thrown at you without warning." Pia replied, "It is difficult to process all this information." Nolen looked at the small brown stitch bag of dust, giving it to her. "What is this for?" Pia looked at him, and he smiled. "My grandmother was a top general, for the revolution she made this dust that can give you godly power for only half an hour. She gave it to my dad before he gave it to me. Don't worry I had more of this stuff but I want to give you this." She was about to open the bag before Nolen said, " Do not open the bag you want to use up here." She put the small bag in her backpack. Pia said, "Thank you but the reason I want to talk with you is to find a way out of this village without being spotted."

Then a voice came back, "I like her," James felt a hand upon his shoulders, sighing, "Anpu and the others." James slowly looked back, seeing a pack of people from different points in time, ethnicity, highs, and race. Anpu looked at him, smiling, before an older lady looked at Anpu. He backed away from James as the lady looked at him. "If you need help asking her out I could help you." James looked at her, blushing. "I do not see your help with anything," She laughed, saying to everyone else, "Guys James said he does not need help asking out his girlfriend." One of them said, "We don't need to use foresight to know that's a lie." The pack of laughter came from the more than 11,000 people who were there. Then a ton of whispering from them, then James interrupts their whispering, "Why are you all here if you are not going to help me out?" Anpu looked at him, saying, "We want to see how you are going." James rolled his eyes before an older, wrinkled white gentleman who looked like he was from the early 1920s said, "I believe you should tell that class about your power." James, seeing his coat, moved to see a large hole in his chest. The people nodded in agreement before James replied, "She is not ready yet." Pia walked towards him, saying, "Who are you talking to?" James looked at her and then back, and they were all gone. He held in his anger at them and smiled, "No myself, that's all." Pia said, "Okay, anyway we need to leave the village. Yet Nolen wants us to stay at a nearby house. In the morning we need to leave to find the others." James dropped his smile. "That sounds great, we need to talk more." Pia was cooking something in her head a million times over, yet James could figure out what it could be. Soon they went to a small cottage, which you will find in a Snow White movie. As they walked in, the kitchen to the left of them in the center was a living room with books they couldn't read. They turned right to enter a small hallway where there were two small bedrooms. There was a twin bed for each of them, where there were fresh clothes on each bed. while James sat on the bed, thinking to himself. He soon took a nap. An hour later, Pia walked into his room, sighing, her hands smoking, pointing her left hand towards him. She was thinking to herself, "If he is a spy killing him now what would be the best try option, yet taking a life could be better." A spark of a memory came to her mind. The last time she let someone live, it ended badly. She ended up here in this universe; she didn't have any evidence that the monster did this to her. She closes her eyes, saying, "Forget me, James." Sparking built up in her hands as it started to build. James' eyes opened slightly, unaware of the situation. "Pia is that you?" He yawned, causing her to yawn, and her hand became smoke, hesitating to reach her voice "Yech James got back to sleep-I- I just wanted to check in on you." James closed his eyes, crawling on the sheet covers, "Pia I got something I need to tell you." Pia spoke dryly, "What Li?" James grabbed her hand, and smoke spread everywhere. Pia was surprised as James pulled her into the bed and barely whispered, "I have time and energy manipulation abilities." Pia was thinking about what she wasn't fully sure about. He opened his eyes, and his smile was innocent like she had once been in her life. James gently said, "Pia you are more than what others expect from you." He closed his eyes, going back to sleep. She almost smiled, but not herself. She let go of his soft, smooth hand. "Take your sleep now, we have a lot to talk about when you wake up." He blew out a candle, closing the door. She swore she saw a man smiling at her as she closed the door.

Mason sighted, stretching out his body, and getting a large, long stick. He got out, hopping out, looking for fish and berries, but wasn't sure if they were safe. He heard a voice near him saying, "Mason is that you?" Mason's eyes went wide. "Jeff is that you?" The voice of someone spoke, "Yes I was out looking for food and got stuck in a mud pit come over here and help me out." Mason slowly walked away, unsure of the voice's sound, more desperate. "Please, Mason, I really like you more than any person I know." Mason froze to himself, not knowing his feelings about this. He was starting to walk closer, yet feeling death's hand on his shoulder and life looking at him. Mason knows he should play this smart. Mason asked, and the most baby voice he could muster, "Jeffy, would you come out so I can kiss your beautiful face?!" The voice that was Mason went silent, opening. He started to walk back, hearing someone moving a tall figure. Mason put his hands in his pockets, ready to pull out the knife. The person who came into view looked at Jeff, but then looked off. They were taller than Jeff with twice as many freckles. Their smile was artificial; they had heterochromia, one brown eye and one dark green. They reached their long, thin ghost hand. He started to hop away when someone hugged him. He looked behind him, seeing Jeff, "Sorry you look like you need a hug are you okay?" He looked in front, but did not see the imposter any longer. He rubbed the back of his head, saying, "I need to lie down, I think." Jeff carried him to the tent as Mason lay down. "I will be back with everything needed to heal your leg." Mason was then pulled from his body.

Mason walked through a fully white room with a large window with lighting coming through, and a woman sat in her seat reading a book about pants before looking up at him. "What took you so long," he said, smiling. She smiled back, saying, "Sorry Mason we had a hard time finding you," he looked back at a man lying across a black couch, looking at him, saying, "Hey." Mason looked at the woman, saying, "Ms. Goodness of life, where am I?" Life smiled, "We are in your mind my dear," then she pointed to a window he looked through, seeing his sleeping body, then looking into another one, seeing Jeff trying to fish. He smiled at him, then the men laughed, "Mason has a crush on him," Mason whipped his head around, "I do not have a crush on him." Life looked at both of them, saying, "Death honey, so teach him," The window began to fade in and out, and the room started to rumble. Death smiled, "It's time for you to wake up, Mason." Mason said, "Wait, I want to talk to you so much." Life looked at him, "All in good time," the whole room went white as he woke up.

"Mason, Mason, Mason, Mason, wake up," he opened his eyes and closed them again before yawning. "How long was I out," Jeff smiled. "You were out for nearly the whole day, but I woke you up because dinner is ready." Mason stretched his body out as Jeff gave him a stick he used to get up the tent, smiling, fish two of them were cutting over the fire. He looked at him and said, "When did you learn to degut and cook fish all of a sudden?" It was a long process. Mason looked down, seeing that the bottom of Jeff's pants was ripped off. Jeff looked down, "Oh yeah I cut them to make this." He pointed down at his bandana. "It's to keep the sweat out of my eyes," Mason laughed. "We'll be better off starting to eat before the fish burns." They eat while the fire burns well into the night before Mason gets up, saying, "I'm about to go to sleep, need me to help," Jeff responds with " No." Mason got up, limping into the tent, zipping it up. Jeff smiled, putting out the fire neatly and putting their belongings in a row. Before walking toward the tent, he unzipped, putting one foot in the tent before he lost his balance, falling into the tent before catching himself inches away from Mason's face. They both looked at each other, their faces touching. Jeff blushed hard, getting closer towards Mason's face, then pushing his own body away and turning over to the other side of the tent. Jeff's mind while racing, "Oh my gosh I can before just did that why why why." He heard the tent being zipped up, reminding him to rezip the tent. Mason was thinking to himself, "I wonder what got Jeff so flustered all of a sudden?" Mason "Mason, Mason, Mason, Mason, wake up," he opened his eyes and closed them again before yawning. "How long was I out," Jeff smiled. "You were out for nearly the whole day, but I woke you up because dinner is ready." He heard the tent being zipped up, reminding him to rezip the tent. Mason was thinking to himself, "I wonder what got Jeff so flustered all of a sudden?" Mason turned over as he went to Jeff's eyes, which glowed for a second as his soul was dragged from his body. Everything went black, then overcome by light, looking around, confused. He looked around, seeing a large lodge cabin. It was a large field and rolling mountains. It was something he would see back at home when he and his family went on road trips in the northern regions. Jeff looked up, seeing a violet sky. Then, back at the cabin, opening the door as ¨I sat by the fireplace. There was a large fur rug of a bear, yet it wasn't a species he realized. Jeff blurted out, "Did you kill me!?" Atlas rolled their eyes while going to speak. Jeffy went on, "Because if you did, then I- Will be you for all of eternity in this. Uh, world- universe." Atlas plan said, "You are in a version of the non-physical realm, you are not dead. Well, fully just like a coma-like state and I can get you back to your body." They mumbled under their breath, "Hopefully." Jeff asked, "Why did you send me here then?" Atas thought, "Not sure, I just want to see if I can and I was a little bored." Jeff was surprised that he didn't know Atlas could be bored. Jeff thought about it "How old are you?" Atlas put back on their smile, "I'm 13 billion years old and I was created by a god or goddess yet have no memory of them." Jeff thought about it when asked, "Do you have my memory?" Atlas thought to themselves proudly saying, "I do have your memories." Jeff felt embarrassed thinking about everything he had done over the last 17 years. Atlas stands up from the armchair. He was significantly taller than Jeff had realized. "Don't worry Jeffy you're still a kid plus it's just more fuel for me to use." Jeff mumbled to himself, "Can you kill me?" He spoke directly to Atlas as he spoke. Atlas, for the first time, took a back "Why?" Jeff repeated, sharper in his response, "Can you kill me?" Atlas voice dropped, "Yes yet I will also kill myself and the same thing will happen if I die." Jeff pauses. "Then let's make sure that doesn't happen." The world started to fade. Atlas stretched his body back in the armchair. "Okay, kid, it's time for you to leave." Jeff looked around, hoping for more answers. "Wait I still have more questions." Atlas replied, "All in good time my dear," The whole room went white as he woke up.

Mason's eyes opened as he was back in the past, over a year ago. He was behind the school. It was getting late in the day he should have been home by now, yet he was with the most well-known girl in school. Isabella Jones believed that since they had the same last name, they met to get married. Mason didn't even like her that much, but she begged him to give her a chance, and he did. At first, everything went well; he started to fall deeply in love, but after a year, his love started to fade; her love didn't. He spoke softly, looking deep into her dark green eyes. "Sorry, Isabella, my mom wanted me to get home almost an hour ago."She looked disappointed. "Do you promise to text me when you get home?" He kissed her with much passion. He hated how he felt about the situation, still saying," Of course, love you." He walked home texting his mom, saying, "Sorry, studying took longer." He soon turned down a couple of blocks, reaching his house. He pulled out his keys, unlocking the door. He opened the door, and everything was quiet, and he called out," Hello, I'm home." The lights were off. He reached towards his phone yet waited for a call. He heard something moving from the living room, and he closed the door behind him. Letting the dark take him over, his eyes started to adjust to the darkness. Someone turned on the lighting, and he leapt back as people yelled, "Surprised!" He looked around, seeing his friend and family there from behind the couch in the living room, some were hiding behind the dinner table. Mason's heart rate started to slow down; he looked around, putting on a smile. As people ran over to him, giving out hugs and congratulations on his birthday milestone. His best friend walked up to him, leading him to the couch. Karn was his closest friend from elementary school, who still talked with him. Karn spoke, "How does it feel to be 16 now?" Mason shifted his shoulder, replying, "It feels the same, really." Karn groaned and mumbled to himself, believing that would get a reaction. Mason tries to stay composed around his friends unless he wants to be obvious. The party kicked off the same way his dad watched him. One hour before cutting the cake. The cake was in a large box that his mom wanted to surprise him with. His dad brought him out to the backyard away from comfort. His dad looked angry, his default emotion, which he rarely saw, even less smiling. His dad's dry voice said, "Act more straight, Mason." Mason snapped back, "I have a girlfriend, how straight do you want me to be?" His dad mumbled under his breath, "You and your friend Karn are close, don't let it be too close, and change your clothes, wear more muscular things, no girl wants to date you if you look like one of them. Masson was going to say something, but bit his tongue not to speak out of turn. His dad tried to look happier. It just looked wrong. He faked speaking more softly. It wasn't much. "You can't like boys in that way, it's impossible. You should never date boys you know are the right son." Mason spoke without thinking, "I do like guys tho dad." He blurted out louder than he mentioned his dad was not pleased, nearly hitting him, but regained his cool. He took a deep breath. "If you bring a boy into my house, I will kick both of you out. Now get back to the party." Mason wanted to say something, but didn't want to make his dad upset. He walked back inside, putting on a smile with his dad. Karn pulled him to the side, and then Mason went to the bathroom. Karn didn't follow Alex. His newer friend Mason was wiping his tears away, though with a smile, "I'm fine, go back to the party." Alex sighed, "You know how I feel about you." Mason knew Alex had confessed his feelings to him a month ago. Mason knew he shouldn't. They agreed to be friends. "I'm going to break up with Isabella tomorrow." Alex didn't say anything, just walked away. Then heard his mom yell since they were going to cut the cake. Mason walked out as his mom lifted the cake box. It was a beautifully decorated cake. It was vanilla cream cake. Mason hugged his mom, looking at his older brother Liam and his younger sister. Then he dreamed he got up, looking at his leg. It was healing faster since Life was probably using her god blessing on him. He looked at Jeff as he was snoring next to him. "Don't get too close to him, it would only lead to heart." He told himself over and over as he unzipped the tent, getting his walking stick. He looked into the twilight sky and shed a tear, wiping it away.
