Chapter 10 - III. FEATHERED ARROWS

Three months later

"General." Opal entered my tent just as I got dressed. "What is it now?" I asked. "Team Leaders 2-10 are fighting again." She reported. "Reason?" I pick up my sword and secure it to my waist. "Some people from the army were saying that you were being played by the prince and the Commander. They also said that the only difference between you and the military prostitutes was that your face couldn't be seen due to your mask."

"So, the team leaders began fighting them because of this?" Mia shook her head. "Most of those people in the army have been saying that for the past three months. They said that they were doing to do you in since the Commander isn't back and he's the only reason you have been in this position for this long."

"Really?" The sounds of swords clashing got closer. I sighed and walked out of the tent. A dagger flew my way just as I was three steps out of my tent. I caught it and turned to where it came from.

"What do you all think you're doing?" I asked; my voice booming across the area. The fighting immediately came to a stop. "Boss! These army dogs don't deserve to live!" James, Team Leader 2, shouted as he stabbed the soldier he was fighting.

"Enough!" I place a hand on the hilt of my sword, and my people landed a punch or two before stepping back. I walk forward. "I heard you want to do me in." I take another step forward.

"I'll give you one chance." The men looked at each other but didn't move. "You idiots." A woman hissed angrily like she was a snake and pushed past them. She pulled out a dagger identical to the one I'm holding. It was her that tried a sneak attack.

"Let's get this over with." I say and I throw the dagger in the air. She smirked at me. "Don't blame me when I crack that pretty mask of yours and make your face even uglier." She lunged just as I caught the knife.

Once she got close enough, I threw it and the knife embedded itself right between her eyes. I unhook my sword and throw it towards Mia. She caught and I took another step forward, my foot stomping on the woman's head.

"What are you waiting on?" I asked the men standing there in shock. "She's unarmed. We can take her!" One of them shouted before rushing forward. The rest of them gained courage and rushed towards me. I raise my fists, now this is interesting.

"The Commander's back!" Someone shouted as they ran in from the gates. Soon enough the Commander, Serin and the Prince rode in with soldiers behind. "Take those injured to the medical tent for treatment." The Commander told one of the soldiers as he got off his horse.

"Serin, go and call General Opal. This time, we really need her help." Someone cleared their throat. "Commander. You don't need to. General Opal is at the Command tent." The Commander nodded but he noticed the strange look in the soldier's eyes when he spoke.

The three walked through the camp but it was eerily silent even though he could see soldiers wandering around the camp. "Isn't it time for training? Why is it so quiet?" The prince asked as he looked around. "That's also what I want to know."

I sit on the steps of the Command tent and watch them. Thanks to my high-level martial arts, I can hear and see them clearly. If the Commander wanted to, he would only need to look in my direction to see me.

They paused once they got close. "General Opal! What is the meaning of this?!" The prince shouted as he looked at the bodies below the tent. The Commander didn't say anything and just continued walking towards me.

"Are you warning me?" I scoffed. "You're not important for me to warn you, Commander. This is a threat to the rest of the army. Doing me in isn't as easy as it seems." His eyes narrowed.

I stand up. "Ask your people on your own. I'm tired." I walk away from him.

"General." I enter my tent and Mia greeted me. "I prepared a hot water bath for you." I nod. "Thanks." I undress and get into the tub. Closing my eyes, I lean my head against the tub.

"Do you need something, Commander? I'm sure Mia told you I was bathing." I say as I opened my eyes to see the Commander looking down at me. "Why didn't you come and tell me anything?" I chuckled. "You're a high-level martial artist; you can hear everything just as clearly as if you were in the middle of the conversation yourself."

"You really have no intention of leaning on me for help?" I scoffed. "You need me more than I do. The only thing you have that consider useful is your lower half. With your genes and strength, your offspring will definitely be powerful."

"You are regarding me as a breeding machine." I chuckled. "Not even that title you deserve. Now leave." He didn't say anything more and left the tent.

"Leaving after they just got back isn't really a good thing, is it?" Mia asked as if she cared despite the smile on her face. "The war will be over in the next battle, our contract is over, so our work here is done." I got onto my horse and pulled the hood down lower.

We'd made it a few miles away from the camp when I heard a faint whistle and pain in my shoulder. "Master!" Mia shouted in panic. I could see the black and red feathered end of the arrow without having to look down.

I pull to a stop, break the arrow and throw it to the ground. "Who are you and why were you watching my camp?" I knew it was him the moment the arrow hit me without my realizing.

I take off my hood and look up at the Commander in the tree. His bow was already drawn, ready to fire again. "Opal. What are you doing? Where are you going?"

"I'm leaving. The contract is over." He glared at me. "I didn't allow you to leave." I chuckle and pull the hood over my head again. "Don't be clingy Commander. It's unbecoming of something from the Regila Kingdom."

I clicked my tongue and we started moving again. I felt his eyes on me until he couldn't see me anymore.
