Looking around at the Shadow Isles, still shrouded in the Black Mist yet now completely silent, Caleb let out a long breath.
But before that breath could fully ease out, Caleb suddenly felt like he could not breathe at all.
Because a wolf's head had appeared right in front of him.
Caleb knew what that meant, Kindred had come looking for him.
Almost in an instant, Caleb was ready to steal their ability.
With Lamb's Respite, even death itself would not be able to take him away.
And it was not just him. Ryze beside him also grew tense.
There was a legend like this. When you gladly accepted death, Lamb would bring you peace.
But when you completely refused to accept the fate of death, you would be torn apart by Wolf.
That was one of the reasons people tried so hard not to die in pain.
Nobody wanted to keep suffering after they were already dead.
But the Wolf Spirit appearing in front of Caleb meant that what he would receive was nearly endless tearing and biting.
Still, Caleb held steady, and Wolf did not open his bloody jaws to bite him.
After seeing that, Caleb calmed down a little.
It seemed the other party's main target really was not him.
"The passage from here to the death realm has already been sealed."
A soft voice came over, and a snow-white figure entered everyone's view.
"Thank you for your help."
Logically speaking, those monsters from the death realm really were not something the spirits of death could touch.
But if humans took action, then as far as death was concerned, that was something they were happy to see.
For thousands of years, the power of the death realm had continuously leaked into the material realm. Even the Mask Mother had been troubled by this matter.
The passages that allowed travel between the major realms had long since been established.
The boundaries separating them had also existed for a long time.
This act of crossing the line was something Kindred had always wanted to deal with.
However, the Shadow Isles, where creatures of the death realm and creatures of the material realm had merged, were something Lamb technically had authority over, but also technically did not.
Now things were fine. All those souls had been purified, so Kindred no longer needed to worry about anything here interfering with the closing of the passage.
"As for the remaining Black Mist, consider it a gift to you."
The Black Mist could not return to a place of higher concentration. Even if it could, the power required would far exceed the value of the Black Mist itself.
So Kindred simply gave Caleb a favor and walked over to that suit of armor.
"I… should be eternal!"
Mordekaiser's soul was still shouting, but Wolf had already pounced on him and begun tearing him apart.
Even after learning Ochnun and knowing the other party's true identity as the dead, Kindred could still harvest a soul like his all the same.
The moment Caleb took out the Blade of the Ruined King, the Black Mist on the island surged wildly toward the greatsword in his hand.
Caleb felt a very strange sensation. Now, he could be considered to have obtained part of the death realm's power again.
Although the main contributor behind this power had to be that hopeless romantic warrior.
But now that he could command the Black Mist afterward, how could Caleb not be excited?
Still, this thing had to be brought back and slowly tested. Unlike Mordekaiser, who kept the Black Mist on himself, or Viego, who used the Black Mist to control others, Caleb wanted to find other ways to use it.
And with this Blade of the Ruined King, these things could be explored slowly.
Seeing Kindred disappear, everyone present except Gwen let out a sigh of relief.
In the end, Gwen was simply too sheltered. If she had survived a few rounds on the edge between life and death like Lucian and Senna, she would understand the weight of it.
But Caleb had no plans to correct that bright, silly cheerfulness of hers.
"The matter here is settled."
Once Caleb fully put away the Blade of the Ruined King in his hand, sunlight, which had not shone on this broken island for a very long time, finally fell upon the land again.
Fine threads of souls vanished, as if they had finally been released.
As for right and wrong, merit and blame, Caleb no longer planned to weigh any of that.
Because in front of him, there were still greater enemies.
"Lucian, Senna, come with me."
Senna had stayed inside Thresh's lantern, so she understood the properties of the Black Mist.
Caleb's plan was to at least use it the way Senna's abilities did, to harm and control enemies.
Unlike the Black Mist inside Senna, Caleb's Blade of the Ruined King was practically a divine artifact.
Just thinking about what was stored inside made Caleb feel pleased.
Second, he wanted to give these two a change of equipment. Right now, they no longer had Black Mist to deal with.
But there was still one thing they could not ignore, the Void.
The monsters of the Void far surpassed the undying remnants inside the Black Mist. They had the traits of devouring and not feeling pain.
So these two also needed to change into stronger equipment.
…
"How is it?"
The group had all returned to Caleb's city, mainly because the Sentinels of Light no longer had much work to do.
After headquarters broadcast the message of disbandment to all Sentinels of Light, it had been left abandoned there.
Perhaps one day, the death realm would return. When that time came, it would be time to restart Sentinel headquarters.
But for now, they could properly enjoy a life where they did not have to chase after the footsteps of the Black Mist.
"Do we look good?"
Knowing that the people putting on Mecha suits this time were a married couple, Jinx's expression looked much better.
PROJECT: Lucian and PROJECT: Senna.
"You two really do look much better now!"
Gwen could not help praising them sincerely.
Not far away, people from the Twin Cities could be seen working together and helping one another.
A brand-new council building was about to rise.
Of course, the true rulers of the two cities, Caleb and Camille, would not go in like the other councilors and hold meetings to decide the cities' future direction.
Their own thoughts alone were enough to decide that.
"I also feel like my strength has increased quite a lot."
Lucian's voice carried a mechanical tone, because his mask almost completely hid his face.
Beside him, Senna's entire face was exposed to the air.
"It really is. This machine and the power of the Black Mist in my hands actually feel like they can work together."
Senna also found it unbelievable, while Caleb merely smiled quietly.
These should be their counterparts from another universe. After being turned into Mecha suits, of course their compatibility would be high.
It was just that Cupcake did not have one. Otherwise, Caleb felt it would be nice to get Caitlyn a Pulsefire set too.
The main problem was that the technology was iterating too quickly.
A few months ago, they had still been building Caitlyn a Hextech rifle.
Now, they even had models of Mecha suits, along with a whole collection of PROJECT gear.
The balance of offense and defense between the Undercity and Piltover had completely reversed.
Now Piltover was dissatisfied that Zaun was catching up more and more with their way of life, yet they could do nothing to stop it.
White streams of money flowed right before their eyes, but they had to swallow their pride while Zaun took its share.
But Zaun had that Governor, and he was extremely good at fighting.
So they had no choice but to swallow that resentment.
As for Caleb, before nightfall, he was still planning to go to the Lytton Restaurant, have another good meal, and sleep properly.
But there seemed to be starlight flickering at the edge of the sky.
