"Are you two seriously bringing this much?"
Caleb narrowed his eyes as he looked at Kai'Sa's almost hoarder-level pile of clothes and little trinkets, along with the small mountain of dried fish, shrimp, and crab Yuumi had stacked up, and could not help roasting them.
Where did these two even get the money to buy this much stuff?
"The people with the Firelights said they set aside some money for you to entertain guests."
"So we snagged it first!"
As Yuumi spoke, she smoothly threw in a backflip.
"Hmm… that money was meant for you two anyway, so I guess you technically didn't break any laws."
With a light sweep of his hand, Caleb swept everything on the table into his system inventory.
Caleb had stored other items before too, and from how things looked right now, it was pretty useful. He just had no idea whether living beings could be placed inside the inventory.
Caleb had absolutely no clue about that, and he did not dare test it.
Maybe next time, he could catch a Firelight and experiment?
Even if it worked, Caleb could not be sure whether that thing would affect a person's brain.
Yeah, better to just use it as an ordinary inventory.
"Spatial magic? But I didn't see a single rune."
Yuumi curiously examined Caleb. Just now, there really had been some unusual change around him.
But that feeling had vanished in a flash. Even Yuumi, who had been in long-term contact with spatial magic, had failed to catch the exact instant Caleb cast the spell.
"Can't tell you. Can't tell you."
Caleb shook his head with feigned mystery and did not explain further.
"Do you want me to carry these for you, or do you want to carry them yourselves?"
Although Caleb had shown off a little, he did not get carried away. He still respected their opinions.
"I'm fine with it. Just keep mine with you!"
For Yuumi, if that mountain of dried fish had to be packed into bags and boxes, it would be far too heavy for her to handle.
It was better to just go ask Caleb for one whenever she got hungry. She would not be going very far anyway.
Even if they ran into some incredible danger, they could always run somewhere else.
And if they really had to part ways, she could just ask him for her dried fish back then.
Yuumi would never suspect Caleb of secretly eating those dried fish.
Kai'Sa also nodded lightly.
For Kai'Sa, who had often lived with nothing on her, even clothes were still something novel.
Her Void skin needed to breathe, so it would pierce through any clothes Kai'Sa tried to put on, turning them into a ruined rag.
Over time, Kai'Sa had simply lost the habit of wearing clothes.
In any case, with that layer of skin on her body, even if someone wanted to look closely, all they would see was the terrifying surface detail of her Void skin.
But ever since Xolaani had helped heal her skin, Kai'Sa had started liking the feeling of stockpiling things.
It was as if those things could give her endless security.
"All right, then let's go!"
Caleb did not drag things out. He left only the processed documents on the table.
For Viktor, this office was too small, too cramped to fit his assembly lines.
But for Renata, it was already large enough to receive guests.
Hmm, maybe he also needed to consider Jinx's opinion?
Caleb lightly tossed a crumpled paper ball over, sending it bouncing into the dark ceiling.
"I know. While you're gone, I'll protect that woman."
Jinx's voice sounded somewhat tired, but the corner of Caleb's mouth curved into a smile.
"Then I'll leave it to you."
Caleb was surrounded by a cat wreathed in magic, standing on an ancient book.
The woman beside him had clearly endured countless hardships, yet still retained the heart she had begun with.
Jinx buried her head between her knees and said nothing.
This time, even the monsters that often shouted by her ear had fallen silent.
The words she most wanted to say still never left her mouth.
Even after she had spent the whole night with Caleb, even after she had spent the whole night building herself up to it.
Jinx knew, and everyone in the city knew, that Caleb did not belong to the Twin Cities.
He served as the Governor of Zaun, negotiated and cooperated with topside, and more than anything, he brought benefits to Zaun.
The money topside had provided, those compensations, Caleb had not touched a single coin of it. He had sent it directly to the Firelights, directly under the eyes of Ekko and Heimerdinger.
Caleb did not belong to the Twin Cities.
No matter how many great achievements he made, no matter how many people acknowledged him, he was not someone from the Twin Cities. That fact could not be changed.
That was also why the Council felt safe letting him become Governor.
Just like when Mel had come to the Council back then and became the councilor with the greatest voice in the entire chamber.
Watching Caleb put so much effort into choosing a successor, then leave the city so quickly, Jinx honestly felt a little hurt.
He could have lived so comfortably.
Just like Silco had before.
Jinx's blue eyes moved slightly, as if for one fleeting instant, wind had swept across the surface of a lake.
The Hexgates.
The airships here were the fastest means of transportation in the world.
Not counting special yordle cats like Yuumi, of course.
Hmm, maybe they also had to count spatial warp spells used by mages like Ryze.
Seeing that Caleb was boarding, the cargo ship traveling from Zaun to a Freljord port did not ask him for payment.
"So why aren't we going straight to the Freljord?"
Yuumi asked, a little confused.
"First, we can't be sure whether there are people living near the place you teleport us to. That might cause trouble for the tribes nearby."
"Second, if we suddenly go somewhere with such low temperatures, it's better to adapt gradually first."
Caleb spoke unhurriedly.
"That makes sense. Otherwise, we'd look pretty dumb when we got there."
Yuumi understood Caleb's words somewhat.
"And besides, after all this time, I should at least ride the Hexgates once and test the effect."
Caleb smiled. Ever since he had come to this universe, he had actually never used the Hexgates even once.
He might as well enjoy the convenience of technology. Once relations with Shurima improved, they could build a Hexgate over there too.
Hmm, assuming that giant scorpion did not smell the Hextech crystal and come tear the whole thing apart.
Still, by then, both sides would have combatants above demigod level, so nothing serious should happen.
Probably.
Caleb silently thought it over, while outside, the countdown had already begun.
"Prepare. Five, four, three, two…"
With the hum of runes, the entire cargo ship vanished from where it was.
In a single instant, the scenery around Caleb became a boundless blue ocean.
"Passengers, we are still a short distance from the harbor. This is a normal margin of error."
The captain's voice came through the cabin speakers. It sounded somewhat rough, and he seemed like a straightforward person.
"Please remain calm. You should be able to see the harbor shortly."
The surrounding passengers did not react much. It seemed this was normal.
Caleb changed into a more low-key cloak and placed Youmuu's Ghostblade somewhere slightly visible.
Overall, the atmosphere on the ship was fairly calm, until a woman's scream shattered the peace.
"Pirates! Pirates!"
The deck instantly fell into chaos, and people began rushing into the cabin one after another.
"Pirates are coming! Get out of the way! Get out of the way!"
Caleb raised his eyes and looked into the distance at the ship speeding toward them. The skull emblem on its sail was especially glaring.
There were oars constantly moving on both sides as well.
Looks like the two ships colliding was only a matter of time.
"Well, isn't this convenient?" Caleb stood on the deck with a smile on his face.
