Chapter 70
GEORGIA'S POV
The world seemed to go silent. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Rheia's small frame lock up. My lips trembled and my pulse began a slow, rhythmic climb toward a frantic, panicked thrum.
How had we been so reckless? Of all the places to discuss a life-altering secret, why the living room?
"Did you two see a ghost?" Merry asked, casually smoothing the fabric of her satin evening gown.
"What?" Rheia managed, her voice breathless.
"You're being summoned. Dinner is starting," Merry said. She let her gaze linger on my face, then Rheia's, before spinning on her heel and disappearing back through the door.
"Do you... do you think she caught any of that?" I whispered, my eyes glued to the doorway as if she might reappear. "Did she look like she heard us? Could you tell?"
"I have no idea. I'm just as lost as you are."
