He reached out and took my hand, but he didn't let go. Instead, he just stood there, searching my eyes as if he were trying to translate a secret code.
"Is it really that shocking that I agreed to be your friend?" I asked, my face heating up as I looked anywhere but at him.

"What changed my mind? I just... I thought it was rude to keep saying no..."
"No, you didn't," he interrupted. "There's a real reason. Tell me."
I bit my lip and finally met those hypnotic green eyes head-on. "Fine. I thought you were going to use it against me. I thought you were exactly like Jaime. So I pushed you away. But I realize now you aren't like him, and honestly, I could use a friend." I blurted it out all at once, snatching my hand back.
