Chapter 52 - Chaebol’s Shadow

Tae-jun looked at his sister, his expression softening into the protective mask he only wore for her, and said quietly, "Eun-soo, look at me."

He took a deep, heavy sigh and began to talk while coming closer to her, reaching out to touch her head lightly as she kept it hung low.

Eun-soo did not look up at her brother; she remained frozen, knowing that he always had an uncanny ability to read exactly how she felt.

Tae-jun, after patting her head with a gentle hand, helped her sit on the plush velvet sofa before taking a seat beside her to begin his piece.

"I know you like that A2 Company CEO," he stated simply, his voice devoid of judgment but filled with the weight of facts.

"I have looked at his profile thoroughly before coming here to talk to you, and I can see from his history that he is an incredibly capable man."

"In fact, I have no problem with you being with him," he added, the words hanging in the quiet air of the suite.

Listening to him say those words—that he had no problem with her choice—Eun-soo became visibly surprised and finally looked her brother in the eyes.

"Really, Brother?" Eun-soo asked, her voice trembling slightly with a mixture of hope and disbelief.

"Yes, I really have no problem with it, even though I've heard from the butler that he is a widowed man with a child."

"He is young, he has built his own company from the ground up, and he has a solid reputation; those are things I can respect," Tae-jun noted.

"But, my sister, you have to look at things from a much larger perspective than just your own heart."

"First of all, you are a member of the Cha family, and even if you do not wish to belittle Jin-woo's achievements, the world will not be so kind."

"The media and the people around you will depict him as someone who relies on you for his success, regardless of his actual talent."

"The media has no bottom line in these regards; they will turn his hard work into a story about a man social-climbing through a woman."

"Do you know why there have been no headlines about you being with an unknown tech CEO yet? It is because of the secret unit of bodyguards working around you."

Eun-soo was struck with a sudden wave of shock, realizing there were people watching her every move even when she thought she was most alone.

Tae-jun, seeing his sister's eyes widen in surprise, sighed again and added, "You don't have to be so shocked; I told you, I know everything."

"I have even heard about him from Mother, though we have both agreed not to tell Dad about the situation just yet."

"The bodyguards are strictly for your safety; they don't know what happens inside your penthouse or the kindergarten, they simply protect you from a distance."

After listening to her brother's calm explanation, Eun-soo fell into a heavy, suffocating silence, realizing he was right about every single point.

She felt a crushing weight in her chest as the fantasy of Jeju began to collide with the cold, immovable reality of her name.

Tae-jun wasn't forcing her to leave him which almost made it worse he was simply showing her the thorns on the rose she was trying to pick.

She knew her father wouldn't use force either, but the "Status Gap" was a chasm that love alone couldn't bridge without someone getting hurt.

Eun-soo felt a deep ache as she imagined Jin-woo, a man who prided himself on his independence and integrity, being labeled as a "Chaebol's Shadow."

She knew that for a self-made man like Jin-woo, his reputation and his dignity were the very foundations of his existence.

The thought of his hard-earned brilliance being reduced to a "fortunate marriage" in the eyes of the public made her eyes sting with unshed tears.

She realized that by pulling him closer into her world, she might inadvertently be destroying the very things she admired most about him.

She sat there, the luxury of the room feeling like a golden cage, wondering if her love was actually a gift or a curse for a man like Seo Jin-woo.

Tae-jun watched her for a moment, letting the silence settle before he leaned in to deliver the final piece of his brotherly advice.
