"Not bad. At least you know how to dodge," the warrior laughed.
He pulled one armored arm backward, and the thick chain snapped taut between them. The chained mace tore itself free from the crater before returning to him, dragging broken stone through the air as it crossed the distance. He caught the handle without looking, allowing the enormous spiked head to swing once beside his mount before resting it against one armored shoulder.
At first glance, it looked like an ordinary weapon, aside from its ridiculous size and the crimson runes carved across its black surface. Yet Max knew there was something deeply wrong with it. His body had sensed the danger only a moment before the strike reached him, and that warning had likely saved his arm from being shattered or completely torn away.
