Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

The Door

Vesper couldn't move.

Her body refused.

Her eyes were locked on that thin gap in the door—the place where darkness had turned… alive.

The faint green glow flickered again.

Drip.

…Drip.

The sound was clearer now.

Not inside her head.

Not part of a dream.

It was here.

In her house.

Her throat tightened. "Mom..…?"

she called, barely above a whisper.

No answer.

The silence that followed was heavier than before. Not empty—but filled with something unseen.

Watching.

Waiting.

The shadow beyond the door shifted.

Just slightly.

Enough to confirm one terrifying truth:

Something was there.

And it wasn't human.

Breaking the Freeze

Her fingers twitched.

That was all it took.

The spell shattered.

Vesper gasped and pulled the blanket over herself instinctively, as if it could erase reality. Her entire body trembled violently, breath shallow and uneven.

This isn't real. This isn't real. This isn't real.

She repeated it in her mind like a mantra.

The glow outside flickered once more.

Then—

Darkness.

Complete.

The dripping stopped.

Everything stopped.

Silence returned, but it didn't feel like relief.

It felt like something had just… stepped back.

Not gone.

Just hidden.

Morning Doubt

Sunlight always lies.

It paints over fear, smooths out the edges, makes everything look normal again.

Vesper sat on her bed, staring at the door.

Closed.

Perfectly normal.

No glow. No shadow. No sound.

Her mind struggled to reconcile what she saw now with what she experienced hours ago.

Was it a dream?

But she remembered waking up.

She remembered sitting upright.

She remembered the cold.

And that sound.

Drip.

Her hands clenched.

If it was a dream… why did it feel like memory?

The First Crack in Reality

She approached the door slowly.

Each step felt heavier than the last.

Her hand reached the handle.

Paused.

Then turned it.

The door creaked open.

The corridor outside was empty.

Quiet.

Still.

Too still.

Vesper stepped out.

Her bare feet touched the cold floor.

She glanced around carefully.

Nothing.

No sign of anything unusual.

And yet—

She could feel it.

That faint, lingering presence.

Like someone had been standing there just moments ago.

Watching her.

The Sound Returns

She was about to turn back when—

Drip.

Vesper froze.

Her head snapped toward the source.

The sound came from further down the corridor.

Near the bathroom.

Another drip.

Slower this time.

Measured.

Calling her.

Her chest tightened. "Stop it…" she whispered to herself.

But her feet moved anyway.

One step.

Then another.

Drawn by something she didn't understand.

The bathroom door was slightly open.

Dark inside.

The dripping was louder now.

Vesper reached out.

Pushed the door open.

Nothing… and Something

The bathroom light flickered on.

Empty.

The tap was closed.

The sink dry.

No water.

No leak.

No source for the sound.

Vesper frowned, confusion mixing with fear.

"That's not possible…"

She stepped closer to the sink.

Touched it.

Dry.

Completely dry.

And then—

Drip.

Her eyes widened.

The sound didn't come from the sink.

It came from behind her.

Reflection

Slowly…

Very slowly…

Vesper turned toward the mirror.

Her reflection stared back at her.

Pale.

Shaken.

Alive.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then—

The lights flickered.

Just once.

Her reflection didn't.

Vesper's breath stopped.

The girl in the mirror stood still.

Too still.

And then—

The reflection smiled.

Vesper didn't.

Her mind went blank.

"No…"

The reflection's eyes began to glow.

Green.

That same unnatural green.

And behind her reflection—

A shadow appeared.

Tall.

Still.

Watching.

Vepser screamed and stumbled backward, hitting the wall.

The lights snapped back to normal.

The mirror—

Just a mirror.

Her reflection—

Perfectly in sync again.

Nothing unusual.

Nothing wrong.

Except everything was wrong.

Fractured Reality

She ran.

Out of the bathroom.

Out of the corridor.

Back into her room.

Slammed the door shut.

Locked it.

Her hands shook violently.

Her breathing wouldn't slow.

"This isn't happening… this isn't happening…"

But denial was getting weaker.

Because now—

It wasn't just dreams.

It wasn't just shadows.

It was interacting.

Reacting.

Watching her while she was awake.

The Outside World Feels Smaller

School didn't feel safe anymore.

Crowds didn't feel comforting.

Noise didn't drown it out.

If anything—

It made it worse.

Because she felt alone even among hundreds.

Vesper sat in class, staring at the board, but not seeing anything.

Her thoughts were elsewhere.

On the mirror.

On the eyes.

On that smile that wasn't hers.

"Vesper!"

She flinched.

The teacher's voice snapped her back.

"Are you paying attention?"

"…Yes, miss."

Another lie.

Always lies.

Because the truth sounded insane.

A Subtle Change

As the day went on, something felt… off.

Not around her.

Inside her.

Small things.

Tiny things.

She forgot what she was about to say mid-sentence.

She misheard people.

She felt like she was slightly out of sync with everything.

Like reality had shifted just a fraction—

And she hadn't caught up.

At lunch, her friend waved a hand in front of her face.

"You're scaring me now. What's wrong with you?"

Vesper hesitated.

Should she say it?

Should she tell someone?

But how do you explain something you barely understand?

"…I'm just tired."

Same answer.

Same lie.

But this time—

Even she didn't believe it.

Night Approaches Again

Evening returned like a slow, inevitable storm.

Vesper dreaded it.

Because now she knew—

Sleep wasn't the only place it existed.

Her room didn't feel like a sanctuary anymore.

It felt like a trap.

She stared at the mirror across the room.

Covered it.

Pulled a cloth over it.

She didn't want to see it again.

Didn't want to risk that reflection—

Not matching.

The Realization

As darkness settled in, a thought formed in her mind.

Clear.

Terrifying.

What if it's not following me…?

Her fingers tightened.

What if it's already with me?

The idea sent a chill through her entire body.

Because that would mean—

There's no escape.

Final Scene — The Presence

Vesper lay in bed, eyes wide open.

Refusing to sleep.

Refusing to dream.

Minutes passed.

Then hours.

Silence filled the room.

And then—

A whisper.

So faint she almost missed it.

"…Vesper…"

Her blood ran cold.

That voice—

It wasn't coming from outside.

It wasn't coming from the door.

It wasn't coming from the corridor.

It was—

Inside the room.

Her eyes moved slowly.

Toward the covered mirror.

The cloth shifted.

Just slightly.

As if something behind it had moved.

Her breath stopped.

"…You see me now."

The voice echoed again.

Closer.

Clearer.

And this time—

It sounded almost like her own.
