Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The Morning That Felt Wrong

Vesper woke up—but not all at once.

It felt like she was being pulled upward from deep water.

Her eyes opened slowly.

The ceiling above her looked the same.

The fan spun the same.

The light fell the same.

Everything was… normal.

Too normal.

Her breathing was steady.

Her body calm.

And that was the first thing that felt wrong.

Because after everything that happened last night—

She shouldn't feel calm.

She sat up.

Her movements felt… smooth.

Too smooth.

Like her body was moving without resistance.

Like she wasn't fully in control.

The Missing Fear

Vesper placed her hand on her chest.

Her heartbeat was steady.

No panic.

No anxiety.

No trembling.

"…Why am I not scared?" she whispered.

That question lingered longer than anything else.

Because fear had been her constant companion.

And now—

It was gone.

Not reduced.

Not weakened.

Gone.

The Mirror — Again

Her eyes drifted toward the mirror.

Uncovered.

Clear.

Waiting.

She stood up.

Walked toward it.

Step by step.

No hesitation.

No fear.

She stopped in front of it.

Her reflection stared back.

Perfectly in sync.

Perfectly normal.

And then—

It smiled.

Vesper didn't.

Not consciously.

But she felt it.

A faint pull at the corners of her lips.

Like something inside her wanted to smile.

She forced her face still.

The reflection's smile faded slowly.

But not completely.

A New Presence

"…You're quieter today."

The voice.

But this time—

It didn't echo.

It didn't feel distant.

It felt…

Close.

Vesper blinked.

"…Where are you?" she asked.

A pause.

Then—

"…Closer than before."

Her fingers tightened.

But still—

No fear.

Only awareness.

The Shift in Control

At school, everything felt… different.

Not because of what she saw.

But because of how she reacted.

Or didn't.

Students talked.

Laughed.

Moved around her.

But Vesper felt detached.

Like she was watching everything through glass.

Her friend approached her again.

"Okay, this is getting weird. You didn't even respond when I called you three times."

Vesper turned slowly.

"I heard you."

"…Then why didn't you answer?"

Vesper paused.

She didn't have an answer.

Because the truth was—

She didn't feel the need to.

The First Slip

During class, something strange happened.

The teacher asked her a question.

Simple.

Normal.

Vesper stood up.

Opened her mouth to answer.

But the words that came out—

Weren't hers.

"…It's not what you think it is."

The classroom went silent.

The teacher frowned. "Excuse me?"

Vesper blinked.

Her mind caught up.

That's not what she meant to say.

"I—I meant…" she stammered.

But the moment had passed.

The class stared.

Confused.

Uncomfortable.

Vesper sat down slowly.

Her hands trembled slightly.

Not from fear—

But from realization.

Something is speaking through me.

Fragments of the Past

That evening, the memories came back.

Not all at once.

But in fragments.

Broken.

Incomplete.

She was younger.

Much younger.

Standing in a dark place.

Cold.

Wet.

The sound of—

Drip.

There it was again.

Always that sound.

She wasn't alone.

Someone was with her.

A boy.

Or maybe a man.

She couldn't see his face.

But she remembered his eyes.

Green.

Her breath hitched.

"No…"

The Forgotten Moment

The memory shifted.

She was running.

Panicked.

Crying.

The figure behind her.

Calling her name.

Not angry.

Not threatening.

Desperate.

"Vesper, wait!"

Her younger self didn't stop.

Didn't turn.

Just kept running.

And then—

Silence.

The memory cut off.

Like something had erased the ending.

The Voice Grows Clearer

"…You remember now."

The voice returned.

Calm.

Certain.

Vesper sat on her bed, gripping her head.

"That wasn't real…" she whispered.

"…It was."

Her eyes filled with tears.

"What happened after that?" she demanded.

Silence.

Then—

"…You left."

Her heart sank.

"Left where?"

A pause.

Longer this time.

Heavier.

"…Me."

The Mirror Opens

That night—

The boundary broke.

Vesper stood in front of the mirror again.

But this time—

The reflection didn't stay behind the glass.

It stepped forward.

And the surface—

Rippled.

Like water.

Vesper stumbled back.

But her body didn't move far.

Like something was holding her in place.

The reflection stepped out half-way.

Now standing between two worlds.

Its eyes glowed brighter.

Not just green—

But alive.

"…You took my place."

The words hit her like a physical force.

"What are you talking about?" she shouted.

"…You don't belong there."

Her breathing became uneven.

"That's my life!"

The reflection tilted its head.

"…Is it?"

The Truth Begins to Surface

Images flooded her mind.

Faster now.

Clearer.

That place—

It wasn't random.

It was real.

An old building.

Abandoned.

A place she had gone to.

With someone.

The figure.

They were together.

Something happened.

Something bad.

Something she couldn't fully remember—

Or didn't want to.

The Accusation

The reflection stepped closer.

Now almost fully out.

"…You left me there."

Vesper shook her head violently. "I don't remember that!"

"…You chose not to."

The words cut deeper than anything else.

Because part of her—

A small, quiet part—

Felt like that might be true.

The Emotional Break

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

"I didn't mean to…" she whispered.

"…But you did."

The reflection's voice wasn't angry.

That made it worse.

It was calm.

Certain.

Unforgiving.

Final Scene — The Claim

The room darkened.

The mirror pulsed behind the figure.

The green glow filled the space.

"…It's time."

Vesper's body stiffened.

"Time for what?" she asked, her voice breaking.

The reflection smiled faintly.

Not cruel.

Not kind.

Just inevitable.

"…To take back what's mine."

Her heart stopped.

Because this time—

She understood.
