Janet hurriedly took the boxes from Jace and started examining them excitedly.
She froze; turning up her head, she looked at Jace. "This doesn't change anything," she said with a cold gaze.
With that she got up; with all the boxes in her arms, she made her way to the bedroom.
Jace looked at her back. "You do know that's my room, right?" he asked.
But he got no reply; Janet just walked away, her focus entirely on the souvenirs he brought
.
Jace sighed. Janet was always too interested in her studies rather than people; Jace doubted if she knew any other people other than her sister and Jace himself.
Jace wondered if he should have her walk the path of a Beyonder.
——
In the mid-afternoon, Janet cleared the room of her things and moved back to her apartment.
It seemed like she was still angry at Jace, as she didn't talk to him during the process.
Jace was again alone in his space. He relaxed a little and pulled out the box of chocolate.
He opened the box; it had multiple bars and pieces. It was enough stock for Jace to last a week or two.
He picked a piece and popped it into his mouth; the taste was exactly as he remembered, but it was slightly bitter. However, the sweetness and rich flavor overshadowed it.
It was delicious; Jace loved it.
Jace kept popping pieces in his mouth until he ate a whole bar; he deliberately had to stop himself as he didn't want the box to be empty on the first day.
So he closed the box and laid on the sofa.
Jace truly was a lazy person, even more so when he was depressed.
Six weeks was a long time, but for Jace, it was as though it was just a bad week.
The tone and environment of both Cherwood and the East Borough were so different, literally and figuratively.
He shook his head; thinking while depressed led to even more depression.
So instead, he got up and went to his room, picked a book on an ancient language, and started reading it.
It was Thursday today, so tomorrow he would meet Catherine.
——
It was evening; the sky was dimming.
Jace, meanwhile, was preparing. Today was Friday, so it was the day he said he would meet Catherine.
He wore a brown blazer, looked in the mirror, and adjusted his hair.
Jace had hoped to wear the new clothes he had bought the day before yesterday, but unfortunately for him, they were not yet delivered.
So he had no choice but to wear his usual outfit.
He picked up the leather bag he had kept at the dressing table and hung it around his shoulder.
Currently, the bag was the most expensive possession he had. Well, the bag was somewhat cheap, but the things in it?
Three Beyonder characteristics and a sealed artifact; altogether their cost exceeded his current wealth, which was about 3,000 pounds.
He planned to sell everything except the revolver to Catherine; perhaps he wouldn't sell the Assassin characteristic as well, he wasn't sure.
With that, he exited his apartment. Down on the streets, he hailed himself a carriage and gave the address of Catherine's manor.
——
After twenty minutes or so, he arrived before the manor. The manor seemed humble as usual; there weren't many workers around, and the gate was open as well.
So he walked right in and entered through the lawn.
The evening mist was beginning to settle over the neatly trimmed hedges and flowerbeds.
At the entrance, he spotted a middle-aged maid, but the maid seemed to have spotted him first.
She walked towards him and bowed and greeted him. "Are you perhaps Mr. Jace Liebert?" she asked, her tone polite.
"Yes, that would be me," Jace replied in a polite tone.
The maid nodded and gestured towards the staircase. "Madam Webber is expecting you in her study."
Jace said, "Thanks," and made his way to the study.
The interior of the manor was something he found quite agreeable; it was well-decorated with taste and elegance.
The walls were adorned with subtle landscape paintings, and the air carried a faint scent of sandalwood and old books.
'She has good taste,' he thought.
He walked slowly, looking around, and finally arrived at the study.
*Knock. Knock.*
"Catherine?" Jace asked.
"Come in," a smooth voice sounded out.
Jace opened the door and saw Catherine sitting behind the desk.
She wore a casual black layered dress with a low cut that revealed the slight swell of her breasts; her long black hair flowed free along her shoulders and back.
She looked at Jace as a slight smile appeared on her red lips. She looked as beautiful as he remembered.
"Hey," Jace said with a smile of his own.
——
Catherine smiled as she saw Jace coming in.
He was wearing the same outfit of a brown blazer and hat with a leather bag around his shoulder; he had the same soft and delicate features she remembered.
"Hey," he said with a gentle smile on his face.
Catherine put the pen in her hand down and got up. She walked towards him and helped him remove his jacket and hat and put them aside.
While doing this, she had turned on her Spirit Vision; there were almost no changes in his physical body, but his spirituality seemed different—more in quantity and sharp.
'So he advanced.' She was surprised; to think the boy advanced two sequences within two months.
Even though she knew the Acting Method, she was always patient and cautious when advancing; even after digesting a potion, she would usually wait a year before advancing.
So she was quite fascinated when she found out that Jace was going to advance only after a day of potion digesting; she was also curious about his new sequence abilities.
She took his hand and led him to the couch on the left side of the room.
"Sit."
Jace sat, and Catherine sat to his left. "How was your advancement?" Catherine asked.
With that, Jace's smile turned wry. "It was difficult... it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that I almost lost control," he said.
Catherine frowned and asked him to explain.
Jace explained everything that happened when he was advancing.
Catherine listened and felt that something similar happened to her when she advanced to Sequence 5, but it was significantly less serious than what happened to Jace. And he had only advanced to Sequence 7!
"You should have waited for a few weeks before attempting," Catherine said in a serious tone.
Jace thought for a moment. "No, it wouldn't have made much difference," he said.
Catherine raised her eyebrow in question.
"Well... some pathways and sequences just have more difficult advancements than usual," he said in a thoughtful tone.
Catherine nodded in thought, and then asked, "What are the abilities of your new sequence?"
Jace smiled, turning towards her. "Curious, are we?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
Catherine didn't answer and looked at him with a smile.
Jace chuckled and said, "Guess~"
Hearing that, Catherine's smile turned wider.
'I'll make you spill it in bed, when I'm fucking you.'
