After the emotional reunion, Sunshine decided she needed some time to reconnect properly with her family. "I think… I'll go spend some time at my mom's house," she said softly, looking at Hansen.
Hansens's eyes facial expression changed as he nodded. "Of course, love. Go home… you deserve to be surrounded by the people who love you." He said but wasn't sure if that.
Kane grabbed her hand gently. Valerie bounced beside Hansen. "Yay! Handsome uncle, can I go with her for the last time?" She said with a misty eyes.
Hansen smirked softly, a warmth filling his chest. "Alright, alright… go with them for the last time." With that, she followed her Sunshine out, the sun casting a golden glow over their path, marking the start of a new chapter for them all.
Sunshine arrived at Mama Cruz's house, the familiar scent of home wrapping around her like a warm embrace. Kane and Valerie trailed closely, laughter and chatter filling the air. It was a peaceful contrast to the chaos of the reunion earlier.
Mama Cruz hugged Sunshine tightly at the door. "My baby… it feels like I've been waiting forever for this moment." Sunshine hugged her back, tears slipping down her cheeks.
"I've missed you so much, Mom. I can't believe I'm finally home."
Kane leaned against the doorway, his arms crossed but a soft smile on his face. "Don't cry too much, Mom. Sunshine's here now and we've got her safe."
Valerie, meanwhile, looked around the house with wide, curious eyes for the last time of staying with the Cruz. Despite having found her own family, she felt a deep connection at here too. She stepped closer to Mama Cruz. "Mama Cruz… can I stay with you guys for a while? I want to spend time with my Sunshine being around too."
Mama Cruz's eyes softened as she looked at Valerie. "Of course, darling. You're always welcome here."
Sunshine reached out and took Valerie's hand. "I'd love that. We are family together."
Inside, the house was alive with conversation. Sunshine recounted her time after incident, telling them about waking up on the shore, struggling to remember her name, and finally being rescued by Hansen.
Kane listened intently, occasionally interjecting questions about the shore and the incident, while Mama Cruz held Sunshine's hands, occasionally wiping away tears.
Valerie leaned against Sunshine's shoulder, listening quietly. "I can't imagine being lost like that," she whispered. "I'm so glad you're safe… and that you're back with us.. I knew we would find you when Mama Cruz saw the photo I took with you.
Sunshine smiled down at Valerie. "I'm glad I took the photo with you.
As the evening settled in, they shared stories of the past, laughed about little memories, and slowly, the room filled with a sense of warmth and belonging. Valerie helped Sunshine in the kitchen, fetching drinks and arranging snacks, while Kane playfully teased them both. Even Mama Cruz chuckled, enjoying the rare peace of the moment.
By nightfall, Sunshine felt a deep sense of contentment she hadn't felt in years. Sitting beside Valerie and seeing her brother and mother so happy, she realized that despite everything she had endured, she had finally come home. And this time, she wasn't alone, her family was whole again, with Valerie choosing to stay as part of their circle.
Concurrently, Ivan entered his father's room without knocking and sat heavily on the edge of the bed.
"When I say privacy, I really mean privacy, Ivan! Why do you keep entering my room without permission? Who taught you that?" his father barked.
"You did, Dad!" Ivan shot back, his voice sharp. "You've been barging into my room whenever you feel like it, and you don't even care if I'm with someone. You just… bang in. I'm a grown man now. When I say privacy, I mean it!" He jabbed a finger in the air, his frustration barely contained.
His father's expression hardened. "Ivan..."
"Dad, I know you're taking Laura's side. I get it. You love her, you treat her like a daughter… but at least hear my side first!" Ivan's voice cracked with anger and hurt.
"I know what I'm saying, and I mean it, she's not right for me." He leaned forward, his eyes burning. "She's been seeing other men behind my back, and now… now she's trying to trap me with a pregnancy so she can blame me. Do you understand that?"
His father's face fell. "Laura… I never imagined she could stoop so low…"
"That's why I ended things, Dad. I'm done with her. I can't..won't..be part of her games anymore. I've been loyal to her all these years. I gave her everything, my time, my love, even traveled to Canada just to be with her. And this… this is how it ends."
Ivan's fists clenched on his knees, his chest heaving. "So please, Dad… tell her to leave me alone. I'm done."
His father, silent for a moment, finally sighed. The weight of Ivan's words hung heavy in the room.
Ivan's father ran a hand through his hair, sighing deeply. "Ivan… I had no idea she would betray your trust like this. I always thought she cared about you."
"She pretended to care, Dad. That's the problem!" Ivan snapped, standing and pacing the room. "I trusted her with everything. I gave her my loyalty, my time… even my heart. And she just uses it all!"
His father leaned back on the bed, his expression softening. "Son… I see now how serious this is. I shouldn't have sided without hearing you first. You did the right thing by ending it. You protected yourself."
Ivan stopped pacing, his fists slowly unclenching. "But what if she doesn't leave me alone? What if she tries to drag me into her lies or make me responsible for something I didn't do?"
His father's voice grew firm. "Then we handle it, together. I'll talk to her. I'll make it clear that no more games, no more manipulation. You've suffered enough, Ivan."
Ivan's shoulders slumped slightly, the anger giving way to exhaustion. "I just… I just want peace, Dad. I want to focus on my work, my life… without this constant drama."
His father nodded, a quiet resolve in his eyes. "And you will have it. I promise you, Ivan. We'll put an end to this. You won't have to deal with her anymore."
Ivan sank onto the edge of the bed, finally letting out a long breath. "Thanks, Dad… I needed to hear that."
His father placed a hand on his shoulder. "Always, son. You're my son, and I'll always stand by you."
For the first time that day, Ivan felt a small weight lift from his chest. He wasn't alone in this battle, he had his father's support, and together, they would face whatever Laura tried to throw at them.
Just then, Ivan's phone buzzed. It was a voice message from Mama Cruz: "Ivan, could you come to my house right away? I really need your help."
After listening, Ivan excused himself from his father and headed straight to Mama Cruz's house.
Meanwhile, Hansen had been pacing the living room, biting his lips in frustration. Sunshine hadn't answered any of his calls since leaving for her mother's house. With a deep sigh, he grabbed his keys and left.
The moment Ivan arrived, he froze. "Kendra Sunshine Cruz!!!" he shouted, astonished, as he saw her standing beside Mama Cruz.
"Ivannnnn!" Sunshine exclaimed, turning and spreading her arms wide for a hug.
Ivan parked the car and returned her embrace, their joy palpable. "I knew you were safe, Sunshine. I've been checking in on you every now and then."
"You did?" she asked, a soft smile forming.
He nodded, and Mama Cruz smiled warmly to reassure her daughter.
"Awnn… you're such a supportive friend, Ivan. We're lucky to have you by our side," Sunshine said, playfully hitting his broad chest.
"Ouch! That hurts!" he groaned.
"You never said goodbye when you left abroad. You're also a big reason I got kidnapped by those crooks," she added, hugging him tighter as tears glistened in her eyes.
They held each other so tightly that not even a sliver of space remained between them.
"Don't cry, Sunshine," he murmured, gently patting her back. "I'm sorry I left you without a proper goodbye. If I had told you it was the final one… you never would have come looking for me."
"Huh!!" Hansen's presence in the room caused amusement at his dramatic statement.
Mama Cruz, Kane, and Valerie exchanged glances between Sunshine and the Hansen, but Sunshine didn't catch on.
"Ahem. Hanen cleared his throat awkwardly.
"Hansen!" Sunshine pulled away from Ivan's embrace, tilting her head and raising an eyebrow.
"Is this why you've been ignoring my calls?" Hansen smirked.
"Hansen Gray?" Ivan blurted out, shocked.
"You already know each other?" Sunshine asked Ivan curiously.
"He's the CEO of HAG," Ivan and Mama Cruz answered together.
"And you're his…?" Hansen inquired.
"Childhood friend," Sunshine replied instantly.
Hansen rolled his eyes and stepped closer, placing himself between them. "She's my wife now, Ivan," he said firmly, his hands resting lightly on Sunshine's waist. "So learn your boundaries. I'm not against your friendship, but keep your distance."
"Wife?!" Ivan's jaw dropped as he stared at them.
"Wife-to-be," Mama Cruz clarified, breaking the heavy silence.
"I'm leaving," Hansen muttered, his tone cold and unyielding.
Sunshine and Valerie shivered at his words. Hansen frowned slightly at their reactions but brushed it off when his eyes met Mama Cruz's.
"…I just wanted to know how my wife is doing," he said softly, taking another step forward. "But here she is… wrapped in another man's embrace."
"Hansen…" Sunshine called out.
He paused, turning slowly to look at her. His long fingers lifted her chin, gently caressing her cheek. Sunshine shifted her weight, her cheeks warming under his touch.
"It is not what you're thinking," she whispered, trying to steady her breath. "And besides… how did you even know where my mom lives?"
Her question went unanswered, swallowed by the silence between them. Without looking back, he slipped into his car and tore down the road, the engine roaring with everything he couldn't say.
