Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Convergence

The air changed first.

Not the ground.

Not the sky.

The air.

It tightened.

Like the world itself was holding its breath.

Kael felt it instantly.

"…It's here," he said quietly.

Beside him, the man didn't respond.

Because he already knew.

The street ahead was empty.

Too empty.

No movement.

No sound.

Just silence—

And pressure.

Kael stepped forward.

Slow.

Careful.

His energy remained steady.

Controlled.

But I'm ready.

"…You came," a voice echoed.

Calm.

Clear.

Everywhere.

Then—

It appeared.

Not from a distortion.

Not from a tear.

It simply—

I was there.

Standing in the center of the street.

Perfect.

Unchanged.

Watching.

"…You're improving," it said.

Kael didn't stop walking.

"…And you're still talking too much."

A faint smile crossed its face.

"…Confidence."

A pause.

"…Or denial?"

Kael stopped.

A few meters away.

"…Neither."

Energy flickered around him—

Stable.

Balanced.

"…Control."

The entity observed him carefully.

Not threatened.

Not impressed.

I'm interested.

"…Temporary."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"…We'll see."

Silence.

Heavy.

Then—

They moved.

At the same time.

A collision—

Instant.

Violent.

But controlled.

Their energies clashed—

But unlike before—

Kael didn't get pushed back.

Not immediately.

He held his ground.

"…Better," the entity said.

Almost approving.

Kael struck again—

Faster.

Sharper.

More precise.

The entity blocked—

Countered—

Forced Kael back slightly.

"…Still incomplete," it said.

Kael steadied himself.

"…Still standing."

They clashed again.

Faster now.

Stronger.

The street cracked beneath them.

Energy surged outward—

But this time—

It didn't spread wildly.

Kael kept it contained.

Focused.

Controlled.

"…You're holding back," the entity said.

Kael didn't respond.

Because it was right.

"…Why?" it asked.

A pause.

"…Afraid of what happens if you don't?"

Kael's jaw tightened.

"…No."

"…Then show me."

The entity stepped forward—

Closer.

Too close.

Its presence pressed down—

Not physically—

Mentally.

Deep.

"…You've seen it," it said quietly.

"…What we become."

Kael's vision flickered.

For a moment—

He saw it again.

Fragments.

Worlds collapsing.

Power merging.

Everything becoming—

One.

"…That's not strength," Kael said.

"…That's a loss."

The entity tilted its head.

"…That's evolution."

Silence.

Then—

It reached out again.

"…Join it."

Kael froze—

For just a second.

And that second—

It was enough.

The connection formed.

Again.

Stronger this time.

Deeper.

Kael's eyes widened—

Energy surged—

Violently.

Uncontrollably.

"…No—!"

But it was too late.

The world shattered around him—

Not outside—

Inside.

The voice returned.

Louder than ever.

"…Finally…"

Kael's breathing broke.

"…Stop—"

"…You can't stop this."

The energy inside him split again—

But this time—

It didn't stay separate.

It began to merge.

Forcing itself together.

"…This is what you are," the voice said.

"…No."

"…Yes."

Kael dropped to one knee.

The ground cracked beneath him.

Energy leaking out—

Unstable.

Dangerous.

The entity stepped back.

Watching.

Waiting.

"…Now you understand."

Kael clenched his fists.

Fighting it.

Holding it back.

But it was stronger now.

Closer.

More real.

"…You don't have to fight it," the entity said.

"…Let it happen."

Silence.

Heavy.

Overwhelming.

Kael's eyes flickered—

Light—

Dark—

Light—

Dark—

Then—

He stood.

Slowly.

Unsteadily.

But standing.

"…No."

The word came out—

Different.

Deeper.

Layered.

Not just one voice.

Two.

The entity's smile widened.

"…There it is."

Kael looked up.

And for the first time—

His eyes weren't fully his own.

"…I won't become you."

A pause.

"…I'll surpass you."

The energy exploded—

Not outward—

Inward.

Condensed.

Controlled.

But darker than before.

Stronger than before.

Different.

The ground shattered beneath him.

The air warped violently.

And the presence watching from afar—

Felt it.

Because something had just changed.

Not just growth.

Not just evolution.

Something new.

Something dangerous.

Something—

Unpredictable.

The entity took a step back.

For the first time—

It hesitated.

"…You're not supposed to—"

Kael moved.

Faster than ever before.

And the fight—

Was no longer even.
