Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Collapse

The air shattered.

Not metaphorically—

Actually.

Like reality itself couldn't hold together anymore.

Kael knelt at the center of it.

Breathing broken.

Body locked.

Energy—

Out of control.

"…Stop…" he forced out.

But nothing responded.

Not Aetherion.

Not the voice.

Not even himself.

The ground split beneath him.

Cracks spreading—

Faster.

Wider.

Unstoppable.

Buildings trembled.

Glass exploded.

The world around him—

Breaking.

"…Kael!"

The man moved instantly.

Fast.

Precise.

But the moment he stepped closer—

The pressure hit him.

Hard.

He stopped.

Forced back.

"…Too unstable…" he muttered.

Kael's head lowered.

"…I can't… hold it…"

The energy surged again—

Violent.

Uncontrolled.

A shockwave exploded outward—

Throwing everything back.

Including the man.

"…This is what happens…"

The voice returned.

But not calm this time.

Not controlled.

Something else.

"…When you go beyond your limit."

Kael's eyes flickered wildly.

Light—

Dark—

Light—

Dark—

"…Help me…" Kael whispered.

For the first time—

He meant it.

"…I can."

The voice answered immediately.

Too quickly.

Too easily.

"…But you won't like it."

Kael's hands tightened against the ground.

"…Do it…"

A pause.

Just a moment.

"…Then let go."

Silence.

Heavy.

Dangerous.

Kael hesitated.

Because he knew—

What that meant.

Giving control.

Losing himself.

"…If you don't…" the voice continued.

"…everything here disappears."

Kael's breathing broke.

"…Fine…"

The word barely left his mouth.

"…Just—stop it…"

And that was enough.

Everything changed.

Instantly.

The chaos—

Stopped.

Not slowly.

Not gradually.

Completely.

The energy froze.

Locked in place.

Controlled.

Perfectly.

Kael stood.

Slowly.

Calmly.

Too calmly.

The glow in his eyes—

Stabilized.

No flicker.

No struggle.

Just—

Stillness.

"…Much better," the voice said.

But this time—

It wasn't inside.

It was him.

The man pushed himself up.

Breathing steady—

But it was tense.

"…Kael?"

No response.

Kael turned.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

And looked at him.

But something was wrong.

Very wrong.

"…You're not him…" the man said quietly.

Kael tilted his head.

"…Define 'him.'"

Same voice.

Same tone.

But empty.

Detached.

Different.

"…You gave up control," the man said.

"…Correction."

A pause.

"…We reached an agreement."

The man's expression darkened.

"…That's worse."

Kael stepped forward.

The ground no longer cracked.

The air is no longer distorted.

Everything was—

Stable.

Controlled.

Perfect.

Too perfect.

"…You should be grateful," Kael said.

"…I saved this place."

The man didn't move.

I didn't relax.

Because instinct told him—

This wasn't a victory.

"…Give him back," the man said.

Silence.

Then—

A faint smile.

"…He's still here."

A pause.

"…Just quieter."

That wasn't reassuring.

For a moment—

Nothing moved.

Nothing changed.

But beneath it—

Everything had.

Because now—

Kael wasn't just unstable.

He wasn't just evolving.

He was sharing control.

And the thing sharing it—

It was no longer just a voice.

Far away—

That presence watched again.

Carefully.

Closely.

Because what it saw now—

It was different.

Unexpectedly.

"…So this is your path…" it whispered.

And for the first time—

It didn't look confident.

It looked—

I'm interested.

Back on the street—

Kael stood still.

Calm.

Controlled.

But not alone.

Not anymore.
