Jessica couldn't even bear to imagine what would have happened had she fallen under the Purple Man's control. If not for Lin Feng, she likely would have faced a lifetime of shadowed torment. At this moment, Lin Feng was like a beam of light, warming her frozen heart.
"Heh."
Lin Feng simply smiled, stepping forward with a gentle but firm stride. He took her hand in his. Feeling the slight tremor in her touch, he squeezed gently, as if imparting some of his own invisible strength to her.
Hand in hand, the two traversed the darkness, heading toward home.
"Oh my god..." Jessica's eyes were wide with wonder. She stared at Lin Feng, her mind racing as she tried to comprehend his abilities. To move through the shadows at will! Lin Feng's power was so immense it was almost beyond belief.
They arrived home soon after.
"Jessica." Lin Feng looked at her, his voice low and resonant. "To make sure you're never in danger like that again, I want you to face your abilities head-on. Stop running from them."
His words were like a blade, piercing straight into the depths of Jessica's heart and leaving her in silence. She thought back to that accident—how her lack of control had led to the death of her family. The pain was a knot she couldn't untie.
Sensing her shift in mood, Lin Feng tightened his grip on her hand. He spoke with total seriousness. "Jessica, from now on, let me be your bodyguard. Consider it my way of paying the rent. What do you say?"
"..." Jessica's eyes grew misty. She understood that this was Lin Feng's way of protecting her. Overwhelmed by gratitude, she instinctively threw herself into his arms. His warmth was like sunlight breaking through the clouds, scattering the gloom in her heart.
"Thank you, Lin..." she murmured against his chest.
Lin Feng stroked her back in silence, offering a quiet, wordless comfort. After a long moment, Jessica looked up. Emotions she couldn't put into words surged within her. Seeing Lin Feng's gentle smile, she didn't hesitate; she stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips softly against his.
In that instant, the night itself seemed to turn tender and intimate. Even the starlight felt dim compared to the heat of their kiss. Jessica gave herself to him completely—a mirror to the boundless favor Lin Feng had shown her.
Time flew by, and a few days later...
Lin Feng finished his special training. After washing up, he stepped out of the bathroom shirtless. Sunlight poured through the window, making his muscles gleam with a golden hue, looking like they were coiled with explosive power.
He quickly dressed in fresh clothes. Maybe I should head over to Hell's Kitchen and check in? he thought.
Lately, with the addition of the Hand, Daredevil's management of Hell's Kitchen had become seamless. Almost every gang had sworn fealty to him. Of course, there were those who only paid lip service, but after Daredevil "made an example" out of a few, Hell's Kitchen had become Lin Feng's absolute domain. His word was law. Even if the authorities wanted to stick their noses in, they had to weigh the risks of a violent backlash first.
A funny thing had happened during this time as well. Coulson, the legendary "nice guy" of SHIELD, had tried to use a moral appeal to convince Daredevil to "turn back to the light." But with Elektra there, Coulson's mission went nowhere. Rumor had it Elektra even gave him a thorough humiliation.
When Lin Feng heard about it later, he just laughed it off. SHIELD wasn't a concern. Unless that "Captain" out in space returned, did "One-Eye" Fury really have the clout to stop him?
Ring! Ring!
Just then, Lin Feng's phone rang. He picked it up and saw the caller ID: Tony Stark.
"Isn't this guy supposed to be busy researching new elements?" Lin Feng answered.
"Hey, Lin!" Tony's voice was buzzing with excitement. "Thanks to that tape you gave me, I've successfully synthesized the new element. I've already designed a brand-new suit—the performance is up by at least 1,000%!"
"I really didn't expect the old man to give me one last lesson from beyond the grave. If only he could see this..." His voice was thick with excitement, but when he mentioned his father, the usually debauched playboy sounded a bit wistful.
"I'm sure he'd see it," Lin Feng said plainly, not being one for sentimental comforts.
"Yeah, I hope so!" Tony brushed it off. "Just you wait, Lin! Once my new Mark 41 is built, we'll see how it stacks up against your Black Rhino Armor!"
Tony hung up in a hurry. Lin Feng shook his head. Tony Stark was as impulsive as ever, a true research maniac at heart. Still, he was curious to see the new suit. Though he had the Black Rhino Armor, Stark's tech had its own unique merits. He might have to get his hands on a set just for the fun of it.
Rustle, rustle.
Just then, a faint sound came from outside the window.
Lin Feng turned his head, exasperated. "I say, Natasha, you've been here so many times. Can't you use the front door for once?"
"Hehe!" Natasha gave a seductive smile and licked her red lips. "The back door? Don't you like it that way?"
