c49: When My Glory Reappears
A kilometer-sized purple void singularity appeared on the Moon.
Harvey's figure vanished in a flash of violet light. Simultaneously, a kilometer-wide spatial rupture formed one light-year away from Xandar.
When Harvey stepped out of it, terrifying Void energy surged outward, forming a purplish-black shockwave that distorted nearby space like a localized gravitational collapse.
The violent spatial fluctuation resembled phenomena caused by unstable wormholes or cosmic anomalies, briefly bending light and matter around him.
Harvey felt slightly relieved that he hadn't descended directly onto Xandar itself.
This was his first attempt at traversing a distance measured in light-years using Void Descent. Even with his current control, he couldn't fully guarantee the stability of the spatial exit point.
Therefore, he chose a safer approach arriving in orbit first, then proceeding toward the planet.
While scanning the Milky Way earlier, Harvey had noticed Asgard and sensed the reaction of Odin.
Fortunately, he had withdrawn quickly. Even Odin, empowered by the Odinforce, had only sensed something fleeting and could not lock onto him.
Another Void aperture opened beneath Harvey's feet.
The next instant, he appeared on the surface of Xandar.
He found himself surrounded by lush mountains and dense forests. As a core world of the Nova Corps, Xandar possessed a highly habitable environment, not unlike Earth's biosphere.
Harvey recalled that Xandar was one of the most influential interstellar civilizations in this region of the galaxy.
Obtaining currency, information, and a universal translator here should not be difficult.
Drawing upon Void energy, Harvey reshaped his appearance.
A suit of armor infused with purple and gold patterns materialized around him. A golden mask concealed his face, and a white robe draped over his shoulders. His eyes gleamed with a faint golden light.
His entire presence transformed no longer merely powerful, but distant, mysterious, and almost divine.
Harvey understood that if he intended to spread the will of the Void across the universe, he needed a separate identity.
An alias.
Even if his actions drew attention from powerful entities such as Thanos or cosmic observers, they would not immediately trace those actions back to his true self.
Thus, clad in this form, Harvey chose a name.
Kassadin.the Voidwalker.
Harvey rose into the air and began flying toward a distant city more than two hundred kilometers away.
Within half an hour, a massive, technologically advanced city wall came into view.
The metallic structure reflected sunlight brilliantly, giving off an imposing and majestic presence.
As expected of Xandar, a central world of the Nova Empire, it maintained both technological superiority and strict planetary security.
Above the city, spacecraft moved in organized patrol routes.
These were clearly Nova Corps patrol ships, ensuring the safety of the planet.
As he approached, Harvey descended and continued on foot toward the main gate.
For now, he had no intention of causing conflict. His primary goal was to acquire a translator and locate channels for bounty work within the interstellar network.
Along the way, Harvey observed numerous humanoid species.
Their physical differences from humans were minimal varied skin tones, subtle anatomical differences but nothing too extreme.
If not for the advanced technology surrounding him, he might have mistaken this place for a futuristic Earth city.
However, Harvey's presence quickly drew attention.
His attire, aura, and bearing made him stand out instantly like a figure accustomed to authority and power.
The guards stationed at the gate exchanged uneasy glances.
Eventually, one of them, a tall and powerfully built officer in Nova Corps uniform stepped forward.
He glanced at his hesitant companions with visible disdain.
"It's just standard registration. What are you all nervous about?"
Then he addressed Harvey directly as he approached the checkpoint beneath the city wall.
"Name, origin, and purpose of your visit."
The guard spoke in the standard interstellar trade language while holding a thin, rectangular scanning device clearly a Nova Corps identification and registration tool.
However, after he finished speaking, he noticed something unusual.
The mysterious figure had stopped…
But gave no response.
This made the guard nervous, and he cautiously watched Harvey.
Harvey had initially thought that without a universal translator, he wouldn't understand these people's language, but as soon as the other party spoke, he understood immediately.
This surprised Harvey. In Marvel canon, most advanced civilizations especially those connected to Xandar and the Nova Empire use translation matrices or implants, and the Void energy within him seemed to have automatically adapted his cognition to interpret the standard interstellar dialects used across regions of the Andromeda-adjacent systems.
"Kassadin, from the Void, the purpose of my visit is to inquire about some information."
However, being able to communicate directly made things much easier, and Harvey quickly responded to the other party's question.
Upon hearing the mysterious visitor's language, the guard glanced at the data displayed on his wrist-mounted device, which was linked to the Nova Corps registry system, identifying the speech pattern as originating from a classified or unknown sector likely outside the commonly catalogued systems associated with Earth-616.
Given the countless planets in the universe, he couldn't immediately discern whether such a place as the Void truly existed.
However, the visitor's apparent cooperation relieved the guard.
"My name is Damm. Although I haven't heard of the origin you mentioned, I've already registered you."
"This is Xandar. Since this is your first time here and you haven't been entered into the Nova Corps citizen or resident database, you can only stay here for seven standard cycles."
"Everything within the city is under the jurisdiction of the Nova Corps. During these seven days, be mindful of your behavior."
"Otherwise, if the Corps detects any violations, you will be detained and brought before a tribunal."
"The judgment will be carried out according to interstellar law; in severe cases, execution is authorized."
"So be careful what you do."
The guard, who called himself Damm, activated a scanning beam, analyzing Harvey's biological and energy signatures before recording the data into the Nova network and issuing a formal warning.
"Yes, sir."
Harvey nodded cooperatively in response to these warnings.
Harvey wasn't afraid of being scanned, because all his information was obscured through Void energy manipulation, similar to how certain cosmic entities in Marvel lore conceal their presence, making his true nature completely undetectable to standard Nova Corps technology.
"Alright, you can go in now."
After registering, Damm, seeing the obedient appearance of the man named Kassadin, let him through.
"May I ask where on Xandar I can find bounty hunters to take on missions?"
Harvey didn't leave immediately but asked directly.
He was unfamiliar with Xandar, and the fastest way to gather information was from the guards.
"You're a bounty hunter?"
"You don't seem like a bounty hunter to me; you seem more like someone of high standing."
Damm, somewhat bewildered, sized up the man, who appeared dignified and composed, carrying himself with the bearing of someone accustomed to power rather than desperation. He spoke,
"I had a glorious past, but things are different now. I want to earn some money by doing bounty hunting."
Harvey, hearing the man's impression of him, seemed to have struck a chord, and spoke with a hint of restrained emotion.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to reopen old wounds."
"If you want to become a bounty hunter and take on missions, head east for twenty kilometers after entering the city to Link Street."
"The bounty taverns and contract hubs where independent hunters gather are located there; they're easy to recognize."
"I hope you don't lose your life and can earn enough to get through this period."
Hearing this, Damm's eyes showed a hint of sympathy. He apologized and explained the directions.
"Damm, thank you for your blessing. When my glory returns…"
"If you hear of my name and require assistance, you can come to me. Perhaps I will be able to repay this kindness."
Hearing the detailed location, Harvey glanced at the man, a faint trace of satisfaction in his voice.
In the universe,
many individuals who have lost their worlds—whether through war, collapse, or cosmic threats fall into hardship. Unable to adapt to ordinary life after once possessing status or wealth, they often choose the dangerous path of bounty hunting, especially in regions under Nova Corps oversight.
This man named Kassadin is neither the first nor the last.
Therefore, Damm didn't take these words too seriously, but still offered polite encouragement on the surface.
"I hope that day will come, and I hope you survive long enough to see it."
Harvey, having learned of the destination, didn't linger, nodded slightly, and walked into the city.
