Chapter 87 - I'm Blinded by the Light

Morning at the Vast Lehatot mansion.

Jack was walking the hallway to the dining room as to eat breakfast.

On his way down Victor, or rather AHIH in the form of Victor was also walking down the hallway.

-Jack.

Jack looked back to see Victor walking down the hallway in his direction.

Victor looked at Jack and asked.

-How are you doing, are your lessons going well?

Jack responded.

-They are going well, last night I made a written spell.

Victor looked at Jack and asked another question.

-You used the quill? How'd it go?

-If you wish I could give you advice.

Jack took out the paper that had the spell written on it that he still carried and handed it over.

-Last night I tested it out but I got blinded for a moment.

Victor began to read the paper.

During this time Jack realized what he did.

I just handed him modern physics terminology, he won't be able to understand it, and he will ask where I got the knowledge as well..

Victor finished reading it.

-You defined Lumine as Photons?

-Or did you went ahead and made your own definitions?

Jack looked at Victor.

He didn't ask about the nm?

-Lumine?

Victor smiled before he spoke again.

-I see, its the second.

-Lumine is the definition of light that mages made.

-Its quite backward compared to what we use, and it only covers visible light.

Visible light? So Victor understands light differently? Mages only see visible light as light?

I want to keep my knowledge but I'm curious.

-Why does it cover only visible light?

Victor handed the paper back before responding.

Jack looked at it.

He added a 'spoken twice' next to the word 'Light.'

When did he even to do this? It was just a few seconds..

-Mages see effects, not the reasons.

-That's how magic works, it gives effects but it can avoid the reasons behind them.

-Lumine is how much energy is given to the light, it goes from zero to three hundred.

That's the probably the visible light spectrum!

-So when they went bellow it or above it the light turned invisible and they considered the spell to have failed?

Victor smiled greatly.

-That's correct, people tie the laws of the world to magic.

-Due to this they don't even know that there is more light than the visible ones.

-And the few mages that experiment with it die early.

The two of them reached the stairs and walked down them.

As they walked down Jack asked another question.

-Die early?

The smile from earlier waned.

-They used smaller Lumine than the visible light.

-They made invisible light with a lot of energy, they died due to repeated casting and experimentation.

-Of course this is a fact only few mages know, me included.

-But we keep this a secret due to all the dangers tied to it.

They died due to radiation!

Victor spoke again.

-You probably learned about this during your lessons so I won't over explain.

Is this magic first mentality the reason why the world is not advancing mathematically?

No, now that I remember there is also God using instability and probability nudging to suppress it, so its probably just a part.

A little while later in the garden.

Jack held a halberd made of steel in his hand, his clothing was changed from the high quality ones that nobles would wear to low quality ones that could face the dirt.

Victor stood opposite him.

-How is that ring coming along?

Jack answered.

-I got used to it, but the side effects are sometimes a nuisance.

Victor responded.

-Good artifacts have always effects that are a nuisance.

-At least those effects can be nullified with another artifact.

Jack spoke again after looking at the halberd.

-So the reason we are out here?

Victor answered.

-Today I will train you in combat.

-I won't explain too much right now, you can use everything you have.

-That written spell included.

-Attack me with all that you have, the training starts when you make the first move.

-Take your time making a strategy.

Jack looked at Victor and began to think, after almost a three minutes of thinking Jack began his attack.

Holding the Light Charm in his left hand, Jack lifted it above his head looked down with his eyes closed and chanted.

-Light! Light!

A blinding flash of light could be seen, some of it still went through Jack's eyelids but it wasn't enough to blind him.

Running forward he swung the halberd's axe at the middle of Victor's height.

Victor's eyes were wide open as he stepped back and out of the reach of the halberd.

Jack seeing this moved the halberd's piercing knife-like blade on the opposite side towards Victor while moving forward.

Victor did the same, moving closer to Jack while grabbing the upper handle of the halberd with his right hand and moving his left hand forward facing Jack.

At that moment another blinding light could be seen blinding Jack.

Next he was pulled along with the Halberd while he was still blinded, letting go of the weapon he stepped back but behind him he felt as if something pushed his lower legs forward causing him to lose his balance and fall to the ground.

Regaining his senses Jack saw Victor, with the Halberd right next to him in the ground facing upwards.

Victor spoke.

-The first thing you did wrong was assume that I'd be blinded by the light whilst showing me that you are not resistant to it.

-The second is that you closed the distance with a weapon made for mid range.

-The rest were both right and wrong, but those two mistakes set your loss in stone.
