Chapter 70 - Chapter 70: The Operation of Life — Corazon’s Final Smile

Chapter 70: The Operation of Life — Corazon's Final Smile

The screen hummed, the clinical blue light now mixing with a warm, flickering orange—the color of a campfire in the winter. The footage shifted from the burning ruins of Flevance to a montage of a tall, clumsy man dragging a dying, hateful boy across the world.

The world watched as Corazon (Donquixote Rosinante) took Law to every hospital in the North Blue. Every time a doctor screamed "White Monster!" or "Plague!", Corazon didn't just walk away—he burned the hospital or kicked the doctors through windows.

"Why?" Nami whispered in Sabaody, her eyes shimmering. "He's a Marine... he's Doflamingo's brother... why go so far for a stranger?"

Then came the night in the snowy woods. The campfire crackled. The screen caught Corazon crying over a sleeping Law, thinking the boy couldn't hear him.

"You were the one who was stabbed, but it was you who felt the pain... poor Law," Corazon sobbed. "I'll save you, no matter what."

In the current timeline, Law pulled his hat down so low his eyes were invisible. The "Surgeon of Death" was trembling.

The scene accelerated. The Ope Ope no Mi had been found. Corazon's desperate mission to steal the fruit from a pirate crew before Doflamingo arrived turned into a chaotic mess of clumsiness and sheer willpower.

The world watched as Corazon, riddled with bullet wounds, forced the glowing, heart-shaped fruit down Law's throat.

"Eat it, Law! Now you can save yourself!"

But then, the atmosphere turned cold. The pink-feathered shadow appeared. Doflamingo had arrived. He had cast the "Birdcage" over the island. There was no escape.

The climax was a masterclass in heartbreak. Corazon hid Law inside a small treasure chest. He used his Nagi Nagi no Mi (Calm-Calm Fruit) to place a field of absolute silence around the boy.

"Listen, Law," Corazon's voice was the only thing the boy could hear through the screen. "I'm going to stay here. From now on, whatever happens... you stay quiet. If you don't make a sound, you can escape."

Doflamingo stood over his brother, the snow turning red.

"Why did you betray me, Rosinante?"

The world watched the execution. The brothers—one a demon in human skin, the other a clumsy angel. Doflamingo pulled the trigger. Corazon fell back, his blood steaming in the cold air.

But he didn't die instantly. He clung to life with every ounce of his soul, just to keep his ability active. He stayed alive until he saw Law's chest—the small box—being carried away by the Navy.

Only when he was sure Law was out of range did Corazon finally close his eyes.

The chat window remained silent for a long time. Then, it exploded with a fury that even the Admirals couldn't suppress.

[Rocks D. Xebec]: "VOHAHARARA! A Marine who died to save a 'D.'! A Celestial Dragon who chose compassion over blood! Bird guy... you killed the only light in your family. Look at that smile on his face as he died! He beat you, Heavenly Demon! He saved the boy's heart!"

[Sengoku (Prime)]: "Rosinante... my son. You didn't tell me... you did all this alone. The System is showing me a hero I never knew I had." (In the Marineford plaza, the young Sengoku looked up at the sky, his eyes red with unshed tears.)

[Doflamingo]: "Fuffuffuffu... what a pathetic way to die. Rosinante was always a weakling. He died for a boy who is now a criminal! He died for nothing!"

[Monkey D. Luffy]: "He didn't die for nothing, Mingo! He saved Law! Hey, Law! That guy was amazing! He was just like my brothers!"

[Trafalgar Law]: "He gave me everything. My name... my life... my freedom. Doflamingo, I am the ghost Rosinante left behind to tear your world down. Rank 43? No... I will climb higher than that, just to make sure your name is erased from history."

In the East Blue, North Blue, and beyond, civilians were weeping openly. The story of Corazon and Law had humanized the "Surgeon of Death" in a way no bounty poster ever could.

In Sabaody, the other Supernovas—Jewelry Bonney(enjoying with now human Kuma thanks to system), Capone Bege, and even Basil Hawkins—looked at Law with a new level of wariness. This wasn't just a rival; this was a man fueled by a dead man's love and a survivor's spite.

The screen pulsed one last time on Corazon's face. His final expression was a ridiculous, goofy, wide-mouthed smile.

[THE LESSON: THE STRONGEST POWER ISN'T A FRUIT OR HAKI. IT IS THE SILENCE OF A SACRIFICE.]

📝 Author's Note:

This chapter is the emotional core of Law's journey. By showing the world exactly what Corazon did, it changes Law's public image from a "dangerous pirate" to a "tragic survivor." It also sets up Doflamingo as the ultimate villain before the Dressrosa reveal later.
