Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: The White Nightmare — Ghost of Flevance

Chapter 69: The White Nightmare — Ghost of Flevance

The golden hum of the System shifted into a discordant, chilling frequency. The blue light that had represented Law and Koby began to bleed, turning a sickly, chalky white. It wasn't the white of clouds or purity—it was the color of funeral shrouds and toxic lead.

Across the world, the screen expanded, swallowing the sky.

The scene opened on a paradise. The Kingdom of Flevance. The buildings, the trees, the very ground sparkled as if dusted with diamonds. It was the "White City," a place of unimaginable beauty.

"It looks like a fairy tale," a civilian in the East Blue whispered, leaning closer to the screen.

But the music changed. A low, droning cello note vibrated through the air. The scene jumped forward. The sparkling white wasn't a blessing; it was a death sentence. The screen showed the "Amber Lead Syndrome"—white patches appearing on children's skin, people collapsing in the streets, and the agonizing realization that the World Government had known the lead was poisonous for generations and kept it a secret for profit.

Then came the horror. To "contain" the disease, the neighboring kingdoms, backed by the World Government's silent approval, sent in the military.

The camera zoomed in on a young boy. It was Law, but his eyes were hollow, reflecting the flames of a burning hospital. He was clutching the hand of his little sister, Lami, who was hiding in a closet as the soldiers moved in.

"Lami, stay here. I'll be right back," the young Law whispered.

The screen flickered. The hospital exploded. The screams of his parents, the doctors, and his sister were silenced by the roar of the fire. The world watched in absolute, horrified silence as the young Trafalgar Law—the future Rank 43—crawled through a pile of his dead classmates and neighbors to escape the perimeter. He was covered in their blood, a ghost walking through a graveyard of his own life.

The chat window erupted, but the tone was different. There were no jokes from the pirates. Even the Marines were quiet.

[Sengoku (Prime)]: "Flevance... I remember the reports. We were told it was a highly contagious plague. We were told the military intervention was a necessity to save the North Blue. This... this footage shows the soldiers were firing on unarmed civilians."

[Rocks D. Xebec]: "VOHAHARARA! Look at that 'Justice,' Sengoku! You burned a whole country to protect the pockets of the Celestial Dragons! A 'contagious plague'? Lies! It was lead poisoning, and you killed the witnesses! No wonder this brat chose the 'wrong path'—the 'right' path was built on his sister's ashes!"

[Whitebeard (Prime)]: "Gurarara... A world that hunts children is a world that deserves to be sunk. Trafalgar Law... to survive that hell and still stand... your soul is harder than diamond."

[Eustass Kid]: "I... I didn't know. I thought he was just some pampered doctor. To climb out of a pile of bodies like that... Hey, Law! I take it back! You're not a bottom-feeder. You're a survivor."

[Trafalgar Law]: "I don't need your pity, Eustass. I didn't want the world to see this. I wanted to forget the smell of that smoke. But if the System wants to show the truth, then look closely. That is the world you all fight for."

In the Holy Land, Five elders watched the footage with a cold, detached gaze. To them, the destruction of Flevance was a mere "pruning" of an unstable element.

"The Amber Lead was a variable that needed to be erased," one elder said, his voice echoing in the silent halls of Mary Geoise. "Trafalgar Law is a survivor of a failed purge. A mistake that must now be corrected."

Beside him, the other elders remained silent, but their Haki flared. The System was revealing the dark history they worked so hard to bury. And they know it's not the end.

The scene on the screen shifted. The young, dying Law, with only weeks to live, walked into a spider's web. He walked into the Spider Miles base of the Donquixote Family. He was strapped with grenades, his face twisted in a mask of pure, demonic hatred.

"I want to destroy everything," the young Law told the screen. "Every person, every building... I want to turn it all to dust before I die."

[Doflamingo] was seen laughing on the screen, his shadows looming over the boy. "Fuffuffuffu! I like those eyes! Come, Law! I'll teach you how to break the world!"

Just as the darkness seemed absolute, a tall man in a feathered coat and clown makeup appeared on the screen, clumsily tripping over his own feet and lighting his own coat on fire. Corazon.

The screen pulsed.

[THE THEME: THE TWO MONSTERS — ONE WHO TAUGHT HIM TO KILL, ONE WHO TAUGHT HIM TO LIVE.]

The world watched as Law's cold gaze in the present day softened for just a fraction of a second.

[NEXT CHAPTER: THE OPERATION OF LIFE — CORAZON'S FINAL SMILE.]

📝 Author's Note:

The tragedy of Flevance is the perfect way to justify Law's high rank. It's not just about his Devil Fruit; it's about the mental fortitude required to survive a genocide at ten years old. Even Kid, the most arrogant rookie, has to show respect here. The contrast between Doflamingo (the mentor of hate) and Corazon (the mentor of love) will be the focus of the next chapter. The world is finally seeing that "Justice" isn't always white—sometimes it's stained with lead.
